Well, Gatobe, your reply is actually part of the reason that I posted the question. However, having lived abroad and seen racism in all other cultures who don't face the diversity that Americans do, I would have to say that Americans have made great strides. We are so diverse that most people have overcome the greatest part of their racism. I actually don't think Americans are as racist as most other people in the world anymore.

Yeah, people are mentioning racism, but the guy just got into national government. He's so young. In many ways, that could be good, but the lack of experience is worrying..

Eventually, yes; but not in 2008.

In politics, everything is timing. In order to be a candidate in 2008, he'd have to start running yesterday. He's only got two years in the Senate, and no experience at all in administration (federal, state or local). Americans tend to like to choose their presidents from the executive ranks (which is why so many of the presidents in the last few decades have come from the ranks of state governors). Obama doesn't have that; and if he tries to run with no executive experience and only two years in the US Senate the American people will reject him (and that has nothing to do with race).

It's just not his time for the presidency. At this time, he simply lacks the experience to instill confidence in a majority of Americans that he can handle the awesome responsibilites of the office. There is, however, a chance that he could pick up the nomination as vice-presidential candidate. At this time, however, I think that is the best he could hope for.

If it came down to a hard choice between Hilllary and Obama, a lot of fence-sitters would probably jump over into the Obama camp.

No, for three reasons. 1.) America is still racist. 2.) I hate Democrats & 3.) He is relatively inexperienced.

I think the U.S. is much too racist for him to be elected, no matter how good he is. He's certainly smarter than anybody the Republicans can put froward.

He could be better than what we got now.

He might be better than Brother Jebb.

He is in better health than Sen McCain.

But he might not be ready....
