Aliens from Space.

The nearest star is well more than a lightyear away. That is, the nearest alien would need to travel more than 1/2 trillion miles to get here. At the unheard of speed of 100,000 miles per hour, the alien would need to travel nearly 7,000 years to get here. This spacecraft would need to support a large number of aliens, surviving generations of space travel. This is a HUGE amount of food, water and air. Moving such a ship at such a speed requires incredible amounts of fuel. The ship would have to be about the size of New Jersey.

First, we would have to assume that this alien can even find us. From that distance, our planet hides neatly in the sun's glare. The alien would need to know that life exists on our hidden planet, and have a darned good reason to hope moving New Jersey towards Earth would be a fruitful mission.

Next, given that we have 8 Billion people here, and that perhaps one person in a thousand would object to aliens taking over our planet, this ship will have to conquer 8 million humans.

Now we are talking about a ship the size of Pennsylvania.

All of this assumes that the nearest star has an inhabited planet wanting to take over the earth. The nearest capable, imperialistic life form to our planet might be ten times as far, or perhaps even thousands of times as far, which might require 70,000 years of travel and a ship the size of Africa.

WHY?

Why would an alien invest 70,000 years of travel in moving a continent to earth. If they can do all that, then taking over our planet would be like craving only a single particular sesame seed from a truckload of sesame seed buns. Chances are that these aliens might find other, closer, more desirable planets reachable in shorter times, with only a ship the size of Key West.

Earth will never see aliens, nor will we visit them. It is NOT PHYSICALLY PRACTICAL, and will never justify the phenomenal resources required, particularly to overcome a civilization in military fashion.

Suppose we tried to take over an alien planet. Can we hope we have the power to tackle an unknown civilization? Can we expect that our combined societies would sanction using the planet's resources to send even ten of our finest warriors in a ship the size of Hawaii on an unsure journey lasting a dozen thousand years?

It would require a thousand years to even build such a spacecraft. It would be easier to obliterate the moon, and again I ask...

WHY?

I think we will be the aliens and take over another planet. Our natural resources will run out and space travel will be more accessible in the future.

As soon as they finish the Reconquista, they will probably infiltrate Europe, too. Or did you mean aliens from space?

Yes, it is proven through out history, when a more technologicly advance civilization gets in contact with a lower one, the highly advance takes over. I am talking about different civilizations, now imagine different spicies.

I don't really know, but to presume we are the only planet in the galaxy to have intelligent life is rather arrogant. I do believe there are other life forms out there and that one day humans will be face to face (if they have one) with them.
