I read it when I was about 11 and it was ok. However, back when the book was written, authors were paid by the word- so a lot of 19th century fiction is wordy by 21st century standards.

No!!!! God No!!!!!

I did think it was a well written book. But as a male, the subject matter just didn't interest me. I read it when I was 9. I tried Little Men (also by Louisa May Alcott) and found it was boring also.

Having said that, they still were not as bad as having to read "Jane Eyre". Again, you have an extremely well written book that no juvenile (no jokes, ladies, like "aren't all males juvenile") male should have to read. It's just not a book with subject matter to interest a male. I can appreciate them as well written books just like I can appreciate Impressionism as an art form. It' doesn't mean I like them.

By the way, if you think Little Women was bad, try reading a book by Anthony Trollope. Supposedly, he is considered to be one of the greatest 19th century novelists. BORING!!!! And SLOW! My God, his books are slow. He can write 5 chapters and 100 pages about a walk around a small country pond and nothing happens!!!!! It's just a walk around the pond.

I read and enjoy Plato, Aristotle, Kant and Spinoza. I like Dumas and Sabatini. So it's not like I only read modern fast moving novels or fiction. However the non-fiction of the philosopher/psychologist William James is faster moving and more interesting than any of the novels written by Alcott, Trollope or any of the Bronte sisters.

Hated it.
...Ok, maybe I didn't hate it back when I first read it, I was about 10. But I do hate it. It's barely a well written book, and what I actually despise about the book is how the first part tries so impossibly hard to build up to something that it completely crashes in the second part.

All the book is build up to something that never really happens.

iT IS not a book for today but it depicts how life was back then. It is said to be semi autobiographical Jo bein the writer Louisa Mae Alcott. Frankly, the women are boring as is their mother Marme.

I liked it when I was 9 or 10, but when I tried reading it with my daughter who is now 32, I couldn't stomach it.

No I found it very tedious and only read it to meet requirements. I prefered mysteries at the age I read it.
