i duno about milwaukie, oregon but in new york, the year i was born my parents were making a grand total of $13,000 a year and my brother was born two years after me. we were never on welfare but did recieve some assistance from WIC. aside from that, we are now very happy living in a nice neighborhood. i was valedictorian of my class and my brother is a great football player. of course you can survive just make sure you are carefully managing your money. save anything that you can and make sure to pay your bills on time (this = good credit) good luck!

I live in a high cost area, due to a casino and a college. I am married, and we have 3 children. We spent almost $800 a month in rent, and almost $800 a month in bills & groceries. We live on $31,000 a year. YES, it is possible. Just cut back on frivolous spending, and going out.

Go back to the bare basics, and get your bills taken care of, before looking at building a savings.

budget101.com is very helpful in learning to live on a budget, and learning to stick to it.

You want to hear yes... but the answer is no. 35k is an entry-level salary, and you have too many mouths to feed. You will have to both get jobs or someone will need a second job.

Good Luck.
