Ah!... ok So... About 3 weeks ago... I got a Uniary Tract Infection, which i have never expierenced before. I went to the doctor and she perscribed medicine, and it went away. Two days later i developed a yeast infection, took medicine and it went away. I have been having sex with the same guy for almost a year now, so i'm not sure about STD's or anything like that, but i went to college recently and instead of having sex like every other day, i can only see him on the weekends, so i don't know if that is contributing to the fact that I have ANOTHER UTI again. WHAT issss wrongg.

Lots of times when you get a yeast infection immediately after a UTI, it's because of the antibiotics. When you're on antibiotics, they kill ALL bacteria. So, yeah, they kill the "bad" bacteria that causes the UTI, but they also kill the "good" (beneficial) bacteria as well.

I try to stay away from antibiotics altogether (I cure everything naturally, if possible), but if you absolutely must take them, it's a good idea to supplement with probiotics as well. You can take capsules, or just eat a lot of yogurt with live active cultures. It's also a good idea to take antibiotics by injection if at all possible. That way, the prescriptions aren't passing through the digestive system, which will alleviate a lot of problems caused by them.

It's a vicious cycle, many women spend their whole life going from UTI to yeast infection, back to UTI and never realize that it's being caused by the constant medication.

Good luck!

I get them sometimes too. It's so annoying I know! It's because when you have sex the bacterias from the vagina or anus can be pushed into the urethra. It's not that you are dirty or unhygenic. We all have bacteria in our vaginas and bums that belong there but, not in our urethra. Always pee after sex. You have about 30 minutes after sex to pee. It will flush out the bactera from your urinary tract so that you don't develop an infection. Drink plenty of water everyday not just when you have an infection. That way you'll be peeing lots so there's no time for the bacteria to live inside you. Never ever douche. You can wash with mild soap on the outside but, clean warm water and nothing else. I also found that trimming instead of shaving my pubes stopped me from getting UTI symptoms so often.

It's probably not an STI but, if you are in the least bit worried get a test. Most if not all STIs that cause UTIs are easily treated with some antibiotics and nothing to be afraid of. Your boyfriend will have to be treated too as not to pass the infection back and forth.

OK I KNOW what you are going through. After i was raped i had the same prob.. of course i was only 12 and i thought it was myfault that i was sick. But it may be to tight jeans. and soap like with frangrances like that in it can cause irritation AND bubble baths are a NO NO. and cleaning is important. Go and by some vagi wipes and use them as much as you can (helps during periods too... And sometimes, my period helps rid me of those infections, but thats besides the point. pee before and after sex!!! and swear by cranberry concentrate pills u can buy for like 5 bux at Wal Mart! I take like 2 or 3 a day and it makes ur bladder slick so you cant get bacteria on it. When u go to the doctor and get pyridium and bacterium or whatever they give you, make sure u take it all then it will rid of it completely so it wont come back. and clean real good after sex... and if he has like any other parts in you, it can cause the risk to be higher such as the tounge or fingers (i dont mean to be sick) but its true...especially from the mouth and the fingers if not washed... Good luck and im SO SO SO sorry

Try drinking more cranberry juice. They say that is supposed to help "cleanse" you. In addition to that cranberry juice, drink more water. Make sure you use protection with your guy, especially if you haven't been together too long and you only see him on the weekends. Men can be be horrible when you're not around. I'd consider being tested for other things (STD's) as well. If you have an STD, then you know where you got that from and that could have contributed to some of the other concerns.

Most UTI's are caused by not wiping correctly. I know it souds elementary. But it is important to take your t.p. and put it behind you, then start at the front and wipe towards the back side. This is the "front to back" technique. If you do it the opposite then it introduces e-coli and other germs to the uretha, which causes the infections. Also it does help women to urinate after having intercourse. Urine is sterile and it washes some of the bacteria out that also could be a potential infection.

if you think there's a chance you've been exposed to STD's then you should go back to the doctor and be tested for them.
and as far as the repeated UTI's, they're often caused by not drinking enough water among other things. Try getting your urine more acidic by taking vitamin C tablets. bacteria can't live in acidic urine. the vitamin C tabs come in different milligrams, but I would try taking a 500 mg. tablet in the morning, and another 500 mg. tablet at bedtime. drink plenty of water, and orange juice and cranberry juice can help too.
hope you'll be feeling better soon.

As the other answer, hygiene -- however, simple handwashing and when wiping it should be "front to back". that is true that the first UTI is probably not killed so it came back, maybe it is a different bug which didnot match the antibiotic you got. Try also urinating after intercourse, or even washing...that should help too.

There is a condition called "honeymoon cystitis". It gets the name from having LOTS of sex in a short period of time and irritating everything usually resulting in UTIs...pee after you have sex to wash out bacteria and tell the doc you need a preventative form of antibiotic for this condition...helllllllo, she knows your having sex take care of it...

Perhaps the first antibiotic didn't completely get rid of the first infection. ALWAYS empty your bladder before sex and directly after. I'm sure your doctor can go over the causes with you.

It had to do with hygiene. Keep yourself clean, don't wear too tight pants/underwear...plus, make sure you take ALL of the medicine you're prescribed because if you don't, it can just come back stronger.
