I went to Home Depot this weekend and to Walgreens, both of them charged 8.75% sales tax... Anyone knows since when it changed? or it was a mistake? twice?

It's only in National City. It was a measure that was previously approved by the voters. The increase is only supposed to be in effect for 1 year or something like that. And the extra money from the increased sales tax is supposed to offset the city's deficit.
If you ask me, I thought it was REALLY stupid of the voters to let this pass. Why would you want to punish yourselves by paying more and to the government?!?! That really bewilders me...
