I want to use the lap top to run PCDJ (mp3s) and get some DJ gigs. I would like to buy a lap top PC as cheaply as possible, but I need one that will get the job done. Where can I shop and roughly how much will it cost?

I don't know what the reqs. are for PCDJ but for a laptop just to play mp3's you can get a pretty low end one maybe for a couple hundred bucks... If you're in so. cal there's a good electronics store called Fry's. My friend used to work at Staples & he said there are good deals there for computers (it's where I purchased my laptop) but you should watch for sales at Best Buy also & other places.

If you are just going to use your laptop for playback of MP3s, then pretty much any new laptop from any of the major stores will do (Best Buy, Office Depot, etc.) What you probably want to look for is how large the hard drive is. The larger the drive, the more songs you can store. Nowadays, you can get a pretty good laptop new for about $400 to $500. I would be careful about ebay because you don't know what a used laptop has been through. May have been dropped or worse. New laptops are so cheap nowadays that it would be worth it to pay a little more and get a decent machine. Also with a new laptop, you'll get a warranty which might come in handy if the laptop is going to be moved around a bit (don't buy the extended warranty on a cheap laptop though. It's not worth it!)

I bought a $499 laptop for my wife from Frys Electronics and it works great for playing music. It's a 1.7 ghz machine with 256 mb of ram. You can spend a very little amount of money and buy additional ram for it as needed. There's a deal going right now for that very thing: http://shop2.outpost.com/template/notebook

If you have a Fry's around your area, you can sometimes go ask a salesman to see if they have anything on clearance. I've heard of people walking out with a laptop at half price just because it's been discontinued.
