It doesn't matter why its over. IT JUST IS. I can accept it, I just want to move on, but this crap is in my head and I try not to think of it, I try to write it down to get it out of my head, I just want to move on, but I don't want to jump into anything else. I do have friends, I do have a life, I am trying to finish my masters, I just need to get over it. Is this normal? It sucks. I don't even feel like myself. Its been over a month....how long does it take?

It's been 7 years for me and I'm remarried with a toddler and I still love my "real love" - you're mourning a loss, as though this person died, the hard thing to know is that they didn't. I had to get out of my relationship, and that is something I would not change, but I do wish that he did. I feel your pain.

Hi, The How long question is one that NO ONE will be able to answer for you. Everyone is different, and therefore the time will be different for everyone.
I suggest you take everything that you have in your life, that reminds you of your ex, and get what every it is out of sight. Just by looking an an item, you will have a rush of feelings and memories come back.
Focus hard on something, or harder. This will put that stress energy into a good outlet. That is important, Don't attempt to rush into a new relationship, that will only fail.
Remember, Time does NOT heal all wounds, It just burries them!

I was with my first love for seven years. I'm trying to move on also. People need different lengths of time to get over it. I know in my mind that we can never be together again, but my heart still aches for her. It's been three years.

You are mourning. I am sorry for your pain. I mourned the loss of my love once. There was sooo much pain and emptiness no one could fill. I got lucky, her came back. He has been driving me crazy ever since. Married 4 years ago.

As long as you are affected by it.... that's how long it lasts. You will still remember the same things- mostly the good parts- it's human... but one day you just don't feel sad about it anymore.
