If you hadn't eaten in a while (or used up the calories from your last meal), were catching a cold or fever was rising, lack of oxygen, drop in blood-pressure (getting up or sitting down too fast), or most likely some kind of stress response... if you had been going hard all day either physically or mentally and then sat down to rest you were asking your body and mind to go from 80 mph to 0 mph too quickly. Sort of like adrenaline is still running even though you are no longer in a situation which is threatening... your body has to react to the chemical stimuli so if you were at 80 mph all day and you were running on 'high' then stopped (!) you could feel faint, break a sweat, feel dizzy or nauseous etc.
Do talk to your doctor about it, but consider taking a walk around the block to gradually wind down after work. It reduces stress, burns calories, relieves headaches, improves energy and sex drive... it's just good all the way around.
Good Luck!

RE:
what could be the cause of breaking into a cold sweat and feeling faint?
After a long busy day of work, I sat down to relax a bit and suddenly broke into a cold sweat and felt like I was going to faint. I stepped outdoors for some cool air but that didn't help so I laid down for only a few minutes and felt better almost immediatley. It was a scary few minutes and I...

Most likely were a little dehydrated and maybe feeling hungry. Most people unless they have diabetes don't actually get low blood sugar - but you might feel that way if you're very hungry.. Make sure you're drinking enough fluids. It's hard to drink enough when you're working at a job like yours. Also, since you brought it up, if there's any chance at all that you could be pregnant you need to take a pregnancy test. Just take one. You'll feel better knowing for sure. Being pregnant can definitely make you feel dizzy and nauseated!!!

Depending on age, the caues could be numerous. First, heart attacks can cause those symptoms, but chest pain/pressure would normally be associated. Otherwise, anxiety/panic attack is also a likely answer as it hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). In either case, see your family doctor.

Not eating enough, getting up too fast, and sometimes fear. I don't know if any of these things apply to your situation but you may ask your doctor the next time you are there.
