You first need to learn about gold coins. That will take a few years. Try to find a coin dealer and work for him. I have been collecting coins for a good many years, but don't know a lot about gold coins, but enough to get around. I do know a lot about U.S., world coins and ancient coins. I like ancient and medieval Chinese coins. It will take sometime( years ) and a lot of money.

First, become a coin collector hobbyist yourself to learn all you can about coins. Observe closely the practices of existing coin dealers and figure out how to run your business.

Read Numismatic News (if you're in the US.)

One source for mostly bullion coins is www.apmex.com. Pretty good prices.

Because even though the dealer may get it cheaper, he still has to have some profit. If he goes around selling the same price he bought he is doing nothing. The fact he sells more expensive is simply the dealer trying to make a good amount of money out of this.
