yes, but it's NOT Government censorship, it is Corporate censorship.
To explain in a grossly simplified way, imagine a gangster with two 'heavies'. The gangster would be the coporations lead by the international central banks. the two heavies are the Government and the media. So long as the government is working to the gangster's agenda, no matter how crude, or how many lies they tell, or children they rape or butcher, the media gives the government a free pass. IF the government steps out of line, the gangster has the media savage the government.
That way, the people (being as stupid as the Government suspects them to be) can be conned into thinking they have a free press.
How many major media exposures of wrong-doing in the corporate world do you see? a tiny fraction of the whole, because the media is wholy owned and paid for by the corporations in shareholdings and advertising.
So is there government censorship? some, yes, on grounds of national security as it should be. However there is a huge amount of corporate censorship, protecting corrupt and perverted politicians, corporate corruption and endangering public health.

The US media is not censored in the classical way of having government censorship.
The US media benefits from 'free speech', and any censorship is mainly self-censorship.
However this also means they can sprout nearly whatever they want, show only selected things that suit their overall point of view and not show things that are contrary to their views.
What we end up with is hugely partisan media.
Now, the US is also a capitalistic economy par-excellence. That implies that funding for the media is critical. A large chunk of this funding comes from huge corporations via advertsing revenues. Therefore, to a certain degree, the media's hands are tied by the corporations that advertise with it. Of course there must be some ideological congrence to start with. (say you wouldn't see and ad for the Ku Klux Klan in a local inner city paper).
Therefore, the parts of the media that sprout stuff which is more of less in accordance with the wishes of the huge corporations get more funding, grow, get more prominent. Those who sprout stuff that these huge corporations do not want you to know, have little funding, are niche players and thus do not become USA wide.
Of course some stuff is too big to sweep under the carpet (such as Enron, but as opposed to LTCM), but these are exceptions.
Therefore, the censorship you see is actually the free market in play in a free speech society.
The key to understanding why this is 'censorship' is to realise that contrary to what traditional economics studies (competitive markets), the capitalistic society is dominated by huge corporations with probably oligopolistic powers. What that means that the traditional benefits that people associate with free markets are distorted simply because while traditional free amrket economics assumes free competition, there are huge corporations that distort this image and destroy free competition.
This has huge impact in the political sphere with media 'control' via advertising spending, and also political 'control' via lobbying.
In sum, the US media isn't censored in the traditional sense. What most people see is the view that corporations want them to see.
I don't think that 'stupid' is the right word to describe how the US government sees the US citizens. A huge amount of resources is put into PR/spin, (or more cynically: manipulation, propaganda). This means that effort is made to control what people think. I'd rather say that the US government sees people like trusting or lazy children, who will believe what they are told, and who will trust enough or who are too lazy to verify.

Of course the dumb yanks do not. They live in an illusory world. They are spoon fed crap like "land of the free" and that they, and they alone are the stadholders of democracy and free speech in the world.
I once heard that on USA television networks you are not allowed to reffer to the occupied territories in Palestine as "the occupied territories", you get warned of this before you go on air..even if you're not even gonna talk about it.
They live in a culture of fear and seems quite happy to endorse this folly.
They always seem to need an enemy, the current situation is quite Orwellian where Goldstein = BinLaden. First it was the Sioux, Apache etc, then the Blacks, then the Hispanics, then the Nazi...oh yes...yes them that your current Presidents family illegally traded with in WW2..but shhhhh......then the Commies....so now theyre all gone they need a new enemy and low and behold the Islamists are there. Not even 3000 people were killed in the bloody Twin Towers but they think that gives them the right to cause chaos across the world and kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people.
There ally Israel has been the biggest antagonist to World Peace since its creation....theyre endless support, which is promoted through the media causes more harm than good. Empires fall, and the Yank economic empire will be finished by the end of this century.
Conlusion, they dont realise they are the most censored, they are very insular, quite fascist like their Jewish allys, and just playin stooopid and ignorant. Eveybody thinks they are stupid , why shudnt their government

I guess its around midnight in the USA and I would like to make a contribution.
In the U.K. our system of control is the State through what we mistakenly call our government. I know you say its the other way round by it isn't. So far so good for me because it stops a Hitler or something, or it's supposed to. However it is a thousand years old in its structure and has hardly been changed in that time.
Since it was a duplicate of the French model at that ime and they changed theirs since it means we are modern serfs.
We ran our CB illegally until they took the wavelength away.
Our phones calls are recorded for three months as is our Internet activity. Say a few key words and that is increased to six months and you receive spot checks.
This too has my agreement.
Where we really differ is the amount of information withheld.
We have a 100 year rule, a 70 year rule and a new 30 year rule where nothing can be disclosed in that period.
When it is then it is subject to censure.
I have always thought we more more controlled than Russia who did have CB.
One thing we haven't got that controls your country more than most, is your own people who tend to gravitate towards each other like sheep. McCartney was just one example if I remember his name correctly. It are the things like this that have bled over to your social lives where to conform is more important than to become a lone voice.
This I think this makes you believe you are censored more than others.
I find your local community controls you more than our government controls us?
So I am wrong, but I have visited, even worked among you and for you here in England.
Just my opinion.
PS I have a possible reason for my observation.
Perhaps it is a hangover from the past where scattered homes depended on each other to live.
In the U.K we live about fifty feet apart if we are lucky.

If the media wasn't censored it would be taking away others' freedom. There is no way to make everyone happy. Some people don't want to listen to all the stuff that is out there that is not nice. I understand that freedom of speech is important, but if we didn't censor it, we would be taking away the freedom of people who didn't want to hear it in the first place. It's a two way street and it's difficult to cross. As for the government, do you think that they actually know what they are doing? There are too many double standards everywhere and no one is doing anything about it.

Maybe the average US citizen still believes everything in the media is the truth, but more, that it's the whole truth. Propaganda is only propagated by hostile countries, or something like that! Quite possibly this fact about censorship which appeared in the media several months ago and put the USA in 44th place in the world-wide league of countries exercising censorship, was suppressed in the USA media!

No, they don't. Also a fair proportion consider America to BE the whole world and there isn't anything outside their borders (well apart from mexico).
The internet is helping though, showing that there are other views, other nations, and other news sources that haven't been given the White House seal of approval.

The majority of Americans reality don't care.
I have more than 200 channels on cable TV and only two news from other countries (Spain), the news from Spain ar by far better than the ones from Fox or CNN, more informative and with an open minded world view.

No, bc it isn't. We have the BBC and the Journal 3+ times a day each and I live in a "red" state. Also you should see the amounts of independent films etc. available in the public library. Perhaps we have heard some of these details and have made different choices... You know bc people have different minds.
Also learn to differentiate between there and their.
