I heard today that if you take pre-natal vitamins...your hair will grow very quickly.

Is that true?

And also, are prenatal vitamins OTC or do you have to get them from a doctor?

Thanks!

If you want to take prenatal vitamins just to grow your hair, I wouldn't. There are suppliment spicifically made to do that. Silica, High doeses of vitamin B complex. I suggest you find your local health food store and aske the person working there, they are usually quite helpful. In Canada prenatals are available OTC.

I have never noticed an increase in hair growth with prenatals. You can get them from the doctor but I wouldn't. Most of the ones given by the doctor are full of additives and preservatives that actually inhibit the body's absorption of the vitamin. If you need to take them then get a good quality vitamin. I get mine from vitaminshoppe.com I use Nature's Plus-Source of Life. There is nothing added and they are made with whole foods.

Nobody has mentioned Dollar General or Family Dollar. They cost $2.00 a bottle for 30 tablets. When I took the prescription pre-natal vitamins I was already pregnant. Now that I am trying to conceive again I am taking the over-the-counter ones.

I've been taking them for 10 weeks and haven't noticed any obvious difference to my hair growth. Supposedly your hair doesn't fall out as much during pregnanacy so it looks fuller and healthier but that's it.
In terms of buying pre-natal vitamins, they are available OTC; basically any of the well-known brands (Elevit, Blackmores Pregnancy & Breastfeeding) should contain pretty much everything you need. Check with your doctor/pharmacist if you take any other medications or have any conditions that may mean you required morevitamins than in the traditional formulas.
