I don't know who named Earth but it was named after Gaea, the Goddess of Earth...
Another reason why our planet was named Earth is because the ancient people thought that it is the only body with land and soil where plants can grow...

Good question!I belive that the name Earth came from earth which can mean soil, ground and land. When people realsised that they were "floating" thorugh space on some onject,I guess they decided to call it by the name of the ground under there feet meaning Earth.

an egocentric ancient man named Adam, who named the land under his feet after himself and called it Soil (Adama in ancient Hebrew), from the original in the book of Genesis it was translated to many languages (Ard in Arabic, earth in modern English) but the original is the feminine version of the name Adam.

That's a good question. The ancient folks called it Terra which translates as earth. Since no one here agrees too much with anyone else I too wonder how everyhone got to calling it by the same name.............
