My periods are very irregular. Like, the first year I had my period it happened like 5 times out of that whole year. The second year I thought it was going to regulate because it was normal for like the first 4 months. This year I haven't had my period since I don't know when (honestly). I know I'm not pregnant because I've never had sex before. I know that taking birth control might regulate my period, but I'm afraid of what others might say if they find out that I was taking birth control because I'm only 13.
I don't know what to do!!!!!!

Guess What! I was having bad stomach cramps so I went to use the bathroom and. . . I started my period just now. I guess I was just exaggerating.
Thanx for the help though!

For many young girls, the first years of their period are irregular. When you are older, you'll probably wish you were still having them irregularly! But seriously, unless you plan on having sex soon, or in the near future, I wouldn't recommend going on B.C. so young. It's a good thing to be on when you plan on being sexually active, but since you are only 13, the effects of the hormones that the birth control contains might not be the best thing for you. Yes, BC makes your periods more regular, but it also messes with your emotions and feelings. Basically the hormones in the pill trick your body into thinking that it is pregnant, until you reach the week when you take the non-active pills. This is when your body is triggered into having its period. From personal experience, I became really clingy with the guys I was seeing (not all at once, but during the time I was on the pill), and super emotional. At 13, you don't want to have to deal with all the added emotional baggage the pill can give you. Unless of course you plan on having sex. Give your body time; you're perfectly normal, it will regulate itself soon enough.

The majority has the right idea. Discuss how you feel with your doctor. Most girls have a couple years of irregular periods in the beginning, but don't feel bad about visiting your doctor. She/he will give the best advice about what would work for you.
You don't need to tell people you're on birth control. If anybody does need to know, just say "I regulate my cycle with..." Only a rude and particularly nosy person would push the subject.
As to the cancer and abortion claims, they're the daydreams of fanatics. Yes, most birth control pills, like any other drug, has the potential for major side effects, but the number of people affected are relatively small. Birth control doesn't kill a a child, it prevents a child from being conceived (as in sperm does NOT meet egg).

First of, please don't take any medications without first talking to your parents. You're still young and your body might not be able to handle it. Maybe you're period are irregular for a reason go see a doctor and if you can't because you don't want to discuss with your parents try to find a nurse maybe at school or at a free clinic that you can talk to. The pill or any other type of birth control has different effects on everybody it doesn't necessarily mean that it will regulate your period. Go see an OBGYN and if you can't afford it and don't have health insurance call you city hall and ask if there is a free clinic nearby that you can go to and talk to a GP.

It will take a few years for your period to regulate on its own. I started the pill when I was 17 and I am still on it at 30. Wait a few years. It will definatley make your periods regular like clockwork and your period will be light with little to no cramps. That was my main problem. 13 is a little yourng because you are still growing. My best advice is to wait 3-4 years and see how it goes. I know that it is frustrating, but hang in there. =)

I agree with everyone else....talk to your mom and the doctor. However, it's ok to be 13 years old and on birth control. One of my friends was around the same age (she had irregular cycles) when she went on birth control (and she has never had sex before).
If you want to regulate your periods, then go ahead and try birth control.

Discuss this with your mom and your doctor as I'm sure she will advise. It is very normal to be irregular for the first few years. Some people are that way all their lives. Birth control is not really that healthy. try other alternatives first if possible. It is also tied to weight with most girls so if you are gaining and loosing you'll be irregular. Usually needs to be at least 100 to 105 lbs.
hope this helps

okay. listen to this.

i got my period when i was 8 years old. it sucked being the only girl in elementry school that knew about it.

i started taking birth control when i was 11 years old and i am now almost 18.

when i first got my periods they would be so bad that i could not even move. i was thoring up and i just felt like i wanted to curl up in a ball and die. NOTHING i did would take away the pain.

finally after 3 years od this pain i finally went to the doctors and they put me on ORTHO TRICYCLIN LO! this is a really good first pill for young kids.

after being on this pill for about 4 years my body got so used to the pill that i got my period for a month and a half straight.

i only took birthcontrol so that it would change my period not becuase i wanted to become a total slut and have sex with a bunch of guys.

if you dont want anyone to know you dont need to tell anyone. the pill is taken once a day. no one has to know about it unless you want to tell them.

You should ask your mom to set up a physical exam. You are a woman now and need to find an ob/gyn doctor that you like and feel comfortable with. You should be having exams every year from now on, especially after you start having sex (which I hope isn't for quite a while yet - and NO, not everyone does it!). The doctor can advise you what you should do about your periods.

If your having no periods and ur not on any birth control now, u need to see a doctor. Talk to your parents and let them know whay's wrong, if u haven't already. It don't seem right! Anyway, don't worry about what people might say. Their remarks aren't worth a thing. It's ur life and if it's what u want, then go for it. Good luck!!!

you are stil young and who knows what those hormones could do to your bdy. its normal for your period to be irregular. i started my period when i was 14 and got put on the pills when i was 17. my mom ctually took me. ive been on them for 2 years and theyve been wonderful. allthought my periods are irregular because i take a period every 3 months (so i have 4 periods a year, its called seasonale) i can take it whenever i want really! its nice, usualy take it on winter breaks and spring breaks and such. but i need to get on a mnthly one as this is causeing me to get cramps in the m=lower abdomen after 2 months w/o a period.
anyways! so i got put on mine by my mom caus ei was missing alot of work and school cause my cramps were literally paralyzing!. and would make me physically sick. it was hideous. i hope you never get them this bad. but you should talk to your mom and see if she can make you a docotors appointment to see what thye recommend. dont be afraid of what others will think. people are put on the pill for many reasons. prevent pregnancy is obvously the first reason. but there are medical reasons liek to regulate your perios, lessen the severity of cramps and even clear up acne! lol. so just tell whoever makes fun of you to shut thier pie hole =) talk to your mom and see what she does. if she tells you to wait then stick it out for a year or few years and ask her again. your a tough cookie!

good luck
