It is one of those conspiracy theories, such as Knights Templar and Free Masons. There exists a number of people who like to feed these theories. The idea of a New world Order, is used in the US to promote fear of organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank.

The threat is not from any governmental agency, the United states is too powerful for that to happen. Instead, the real threat is from global corporations, that are so powerful that no sanctions can be imposed to slow or stop them. The simply mov their headquarters to the Cayman Islands or the like, and proceed to do what they wish.

Moreover, thier financial influence on politics is certainly well documented in this country alone.

Thus, the real threat to independence does not lie with any foriegn government, but from within by super Oligopolies (Monopoolies of the entire process, not just one segment of production.)

Hope tht helps a bit, this is from memory, don't have a specific site. If you need further help, feel free to email me, as time permits I will hep you understand better.

After World war two, Europe was extremely weak, and so was Asia. There were basically two countries left which became the "superpowers" - The United States of America, and the Soviet Union. China was also a great power in Asia.

From 1945 to 1990, economic recovery and development, and general advancement, brought more political power to Europe, Japan, China, and various other asian countries. Then in 1990, the Soviet Union collapsed, leaving a very weak country of Russia.

And this was the "New World Order"... after 1990 there was one great Super Power, the United States, and a number of second powers whose strength was increasing: Europe, China, Japan and other asian countries.

The characteristics of the New World Order were:

- during the 1990's, a great reduction in military spending, as the rivalry between the Russia and the United States was ended.
- the United States, as the one great super power, became increasingly involved in small wars as the "world's policeman". These small wars tried to bring economic and political stability in Africa, Eastern Europe, Lebanon, and Kuwait.

The middle East, which had been dominated by super-power politics between USA and Russia, before 1990, now became more dominated by local politics.
