A guy told me that what alot of people dont know is that you can loose low end torque from a high flow exhaust on an older motor. now my question is that if this is true could you pick up more torque by making your exhaust more restrictive? at least low end torque...

Your engine needs some balance, if you just have open pipes then you are losing some, not alot of power, but if you restrict your exhaust gasses too much then you lose power too. Typically the stock exhaust is too restricted but changing your exhaust system voids your warranty. You should only change your exhaust on older cars, but to be perfectly honest, there are alot of manufacturers out there that all work the same, yes backpressure is good and bad, but unless your doing some serious racing or off roading, the stock pipes should do be just fine.

An engine is just basically and air pump. The more air in, and the less restricted the air out will increase both horsepower and torque. Usually torque in an older corroborated engine can be increased by changing to a cam that is tuned to produce low end torque.

yes but any gain would be minimal and Dyno time to do testing to see what shows any improvement is too expensive
