For the time it was produced it was excellent, a grand sweeping love story of epic proportion.
I think it will remain an all time favourite forever.
Everyone should try and see it at least once, if only to see what all the awards and accolades were for and to make up your own mind.
Have a look:

I grew up in Atlanta so I gotta say Gone With The Wind is THE movie for any Southern girl.
It was very cool as a kid to walk the streets of Atlanta and actually SEE the spots where certain scenes supposedly took place.
Like where Aunt Pitty Pat's house stood.
Or where Scarlett was walking down Five Points where all the hundreds and hundreds of wounded soldiers lay on the ground.
I actually got to see the movie in the original theater, The Loews Grand, where they had the Premiere.
For it's time,1939, it was a Masterpiece of film making.
The Burning of Atlanta scene will still give you goose bumps.
The acting was simply incredible.
The very first Academy Award ever given to an African American was from that movie.
The incredible performance of Hattie McDaniel, as "Mammy" .
It would be another twenty-four years before another African American was once again honored.
For that reason alone, you should watch it.
Vivian Leigh was perfection.
And Clark Gable was the benchmark every leading man after him has tried to follow.
Yeah, it is worth seeing at least just once, even if you're a Dirty Yankee! LOL
(that was a line in the movie)

Gone with the Wind is my favorite movie!
You can stop the movie if you watch it at home and you get tired. I'm not crazy about the war scenes.
This movie has a very appealing love story, the love/ relationship between Starlett and Rhett.
The acting is tops by all the actors. This was made when black people didn't work much in the movies. They were excellent.
This movie shows you what went on during the Civil War. Watch this movie and you will know about the Civil war.
I have seen GWTW many times, in theaters, and at home. I read the book and the sequel by another author.
I love Gone With The Wind and highly recommend it.

The movie was good, but long.
I prefer the book, it's my favorite.
There is so much more to the story, and especially Scarlett. For one thing, she was married more times in the book.
I thought the war parts were going to be boring and drag. Not so , even in the book. I actually learned alot about the civil war.
I would recommend the movie first. If you rate it a 5 or more, go get the book. You'll like it more than the movie.
USELESS INFORMATION;
.
The studio was getting rid of King Kong's wall so they decided to burn it and use the footage for the Burning of Atlanta scenes.
Look closely at the scenes with the Rhett and Scarlett in the carriage, you don't see her face. The studio hadn't found their Scarlett yet.
Margaret is right, she had more kids -not husbands- in the book.

Do yourself a favor & see it. I'm sure you'll love it. For its time that movie was so groundbreaking.
The book was fabulous, too. And if you get a chance, after you see "GWTW", read the sequel "Scarlett". It was written about 15 yrs. ago & it's a continuation of what happens to her. Don't bother renting the mini-series they made out of it, tho. Big waste of time. Cheers!

this is my favorite movie and book of all time. great story, great acting great scenery.
the movie follows the book pretty much.
by the way Scarlett was married 3 times in the book and in the movie. but in the book she had 3 children and in the movie she only had one.
