I have wanted to be a nurse my entire life and then my boyfriend got really sick and almost died, and I am not sure I can get through the schooling now, taking care of him and the kids, I don't know what to do now, I can't keep up making NOTHING at my meaningless job, any ideas, any career choices that the schooling will not take to long? I cant spend 4 years!!! :( I was thinking maybe social work, but do they make as much as nurses do? I just want to help people!!!

Hi, This is a real difficult time to make long standing decisions. But, I know they have to be made. I'm sorry your having to think about this now. I am finishing up my social work degree and it takes four years. If you want the medical field you might consider CNA or CMA for awhile. That would give you some more time to consider your education. Also, many people love caring for the elderly population as a CNA and spend their lives helping families in this way. I don't know if you would feel less "meaningless" in such a job but you could begin with little training and probably support you family. Further, such establishments will likely understand your home commitments.

To let you know I went to school to be a medical assistant. It took me 10 months to finish. It wasn't very expensive either. I'm not sure where you live but, where I went they had day and evening classes you could still work while attending and the school paid for my board exam. Now I didn't go to a college but more like a technical school. That is a good route to take if you are looking to finish and start work quickly.
