I am quit sure that some parents do take there kids out just to get some free munchies, but as a Mother of two children myself I know you just want to witness your kids experiencing new things and to see that look of amazment or curiousity in their gleeming eyes. It is a once in a lifetime experience. When I took my little ones out for the first time (they could walk on their own!!!!), they went to a few neighbours doors and were so excited to get a treat for dressing up, it was precious!

I have a 12 month old. And we know that she has no idea on what Halloween or the concept of Trick or Treating. So we still bought her a costume, and we are taking her out and walking around with her. At 12 months they dont even eat candy yet. So its a waste of candy and it saves your arms from carrying then around. I nor my husband eat candy. So we are going to use this halloween to walk and get some exercise and spend quality family time togather.

A classmate of mine is taking her 6 month old out trick or treating; obviously the candy is for her and her husband!! Personally I wouldn't do that because the kid doesn't know what's going on and can't appreciate it yet, but also because it's quite obvious that he or she won't be eating it! I would feel a little cheap. If I had an older child and a baby, I would take the baby out for a bit too. I would also dress up the baby in a warm costume and go for a nice walk around the neighbourhood to check out the pumpkins and decorations, but I wouldn't ask for candy!!

HA HA!
I see this every year when I take my daughter out. I see other parents taking their very young ones out and you'd think their little ones have NO CLUE what is going on.
So yeah, parents like candy too!
This year I'm dressing my son up (something cute) and taking him out. He's 2. He may not know what is going on, but walking door to door saying "Trick or Treat" over and over and seeing knew faces, new candy and always saying thank you before they shut the door is always good exposure for kids! Then checking the bag with your child(ren) for good and bad candy is also good learning technique's for kids. It teaches them to not eat something that has been opened or handled. It teaches them safety too; beware of dog signs, no lights on at a house.. etc.
P.S. "right now Kj" um, halloween IS a party for kids, they get to get out of the house, dress up silly and go have fun and they see other kids their age doing the same thing so they think it's a party.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I took my oldest son trick or treating for the first time when he was 14 mos. old. He had so much fun!! Every time we went up to a house, he would say "buh-MM" (button) meaning the doorbell. He had so much fun pushing the "buttons!" We only went to 8 or 10 houses, and all the candy we got we ended giving it out to other trick or treaters. Besides, it was fun, quality mommy/baby time!! Halloween is more about fun than anything else. Most school-aged kids don't really know the history behind Halloween, so what's the difference??

i think that the parents are tryng to show off their little kid to everyone in the neighborhood
we can do w/o that i dont think i would take my 2 or younger child out on halloween unless i absolutly had to. 4 instance if i had another kid say 7 who wanted to go Trick or treating and im the only parent left in the house b/c my wife is sick or still at work or somewhere else then id take the 2 or younger kid, but not to get candy or show it off.
Have a Happy Halloween and a good crop of candy this year!

It depends upon where you are going to be visiting and what the temperatures are like there. This is my nieces' third Halloween. She is two years old. Each year she is dressed up. BTW the mall can be a great place to trick or treat with babies and toddlers. They make for really cute pictures. My niece has been a ladybug, cat and this year a pumpkin. I bought her the ladybug costume, she looked just like an Anne Geddes model for her first halloween.

My daughter is taking my 11 month old grand-daughter and it's not because of the candy, it's because she doesn't want her to be left out. My daughter hates candy. And her other daughter is
3 and she only eats candy once a month or nothing at all. It's just for fun. Their candy will stay up in the cabinet for a least a year. or
Until throw away. Unless she gives it out to her guest children.

It's for fun and spending time with their kids. Given, the parents will probably eat most of the candy but it's all in the name of fun. Kids under the age of 2 probably don't know the true meaning of x-mas yet they rip open presents.

Yeah - the dads typically use the wee folk to get candy for themselves. Although, the little infants and toddlers admittedly look cute in their costumes. Besides, they'll get their fair share of candy once they're older and have teeth. =)
