I understand prison is not completely easy. You have to watch over your shoulder constantly, but 99.9% of them deserve to be in there. You do the crime you do the time. I know some prisoners are allowed to read newspapers, watch tv, socialize, play sports and get three meals a day. To me this seems a bit easy considering some guys are in there for triple murder, rape, and various other charges. They have it better than the homeless in my opinion. What do you guys think?

Yes, I think they have it way to easy. Not only do they get their three meals a day, air conditioning, and free medical and dental, they also have cable TV, movie nights, game nights, social activities, recreational time, and more. This is supposed to be a punishment. It is not a day spa, or a camp for misguided souls. And there is a tremendous return rate. It has been told by several inmates, that they don't have anything else when they get out, and they have it good inside so why stay out. My dad has worked in the prison systems as an instructor for over 20 years. He has heard all of the sob stories, and sees the placating way that the government handles this situation. This is a punishment, it should not be like this. They should have no rec time, no TV, no movies, no games, no medical unless it is a life and death situation, and then I would question that. They get a free education, that most of them wont use or they will use it for some bad thing. They should be punished not pampered.

Prison life is far from easy. Imagine someone telling you when to do everything (eat, take a shower). You are locked up in a cage 23 1/2 , 22 or 24 hours a day. SO all the things you said they do they do it for like 15 minutes. Everyone in jail doesn't belong there, some are in there just because of parking tickets and thats nothing bad. Many people also die in jail.

And you can't talk about somewhere you never been

Because there is a big difference between rehabilitation and punishment. The violent offenders are constantly violating the rights of the convicts without violent tendencies. There is a danger 24/7 of being attacked or killed. The non-violent offenders should be separated from the dangerous convicts. This will increase the possibility of rehabilitation for the ones most likely to go straight. If they had less guards and more counselors and social workers , society will be much safer when they are released. Life in prison should not be easier for the most violent prisoners. Lets focus on the ones with a chance of overcoming their criminal tendencies.

I think that people like you are idiots. You haven't spent so much as a day in prison, but the media says that prisons are getting too soft, so naturally, because you're an idiot, you assume that what they say is solid fact. Part of the purpsose (or at least the intended purpose) of prisons is to reform people, so aside from the lifers, if you put someone in jail for an extended period of time in harsh conditions, it is more likely to harden them and then they will come out of prison more dangerous than when they came.

No. They have lost all freedoms. They can't see their family's. Only on appointed visiting days. They don't even chose when they eat .Forget about what they eat. They are put into a very small room with another person. They have to get along with this stranger even if they are totally different in their personalities. They have a toilet out in front and center of the room they share. They have to watch what they say and do so as not to offend anyone . If you don't you could end up dead. They have to work for a few dollars a month. This is the same for the guy that got caught with a small amount of weed. And the guy that killed someone. Same punishment. Maybe the punishment should be based on the crime instead of time.So the guy that got caught with the weed doesn't have to be with the killer. They say they don't put them together. But I know they do my son is the guy with the weed.

I agree with everything you mentioned just let me add a couple more ideas. The man in Texas who runs the prison he makes the guys wear PINK....and they live in tents and have it on the hard side. and if they get freebies nice things..they have to work hard for it. The ones there for the most violent crimes should be out doing hard labor and not sitting enjoying whatever they have in front of them like tv etc. or other things that were taken away from their victims. The judges today are allowing too many to go free or not enough time spent paying for their crime. If this keeps up we are going to face more problems than immigrants coming into our country it's going to be these prisoners being let out too soon.

I think they should be forced to work, that way they won't have a problem doing it when they get out.

Where I live there is a prison on a big farm and they work on it, the killers and rapist handle cattle because if they get killed no one cares.

It's interesting to see about a hundred of them chained together headed out into the fields at 5:00 in the morning with about twenty guys on horses with rifles watching them.

You are right, it's the easy life. I even heard a man say, "well, it's turning colder, I think I'll go break in a place and steal something. Yes, they have it better than the homeless and the only reason you have homeless is they would rather be free. But as things get harder I think the homeless will start thinking about breaking the law and the public will pay to feed and house them.

Homeless have the option of actually going somewhere and doing something. Some of them can even get homes and jobs. In prison you don't even have the hope of doing better tomorrow.
Also, the point is that these are still human beings in prison. We are still required to treat them like human beings. If we didn't do that we would be animals ourselves. I don't care what they did. Prison is to remove them from society so they can do no more damage. Not to pull their teeth and make them pay for theri crimes with misery.

Well after all they are locked up and kept away from the general society. If you confine people and not give them any outlet, such as reading, watching TV or having contact with other humans I think it would create more of a problem. They will actually go insane. So how would you like to work in an environment that not only has the worse criminals, but now they are all totally nuts from lack of civility. Pretty scary, I think. And remember they are there not only for punishment but also for rehab.
