I once read a book called 'Do Fish Drink Water?' By Bill McLain. It basically was a book that answered obscure questions like do blind people dream, how many colors of m&m are there, and how pizza originated.
Now back to the tootsie pop question.
According to the book, a group of students had an experiment, and had several people licking the center of a tootsie pop. It turns out there were three groups:
(directly quoted from the book)
75-100 licks group: the ones who were too excited or just apathetic. They couldn't resist biting, or just wanted to get over with the dumb experiment.
125-150 licks group: the real serious ones
175-200 licks group: the ones who are quite thrifty, who NEVER bite a candy.
On average, it took 142 licks to reach the center.
