I'm not extremely depressed, but I am often a little down. I don't get much sleep and I have trouble concentrating on things sometimes. I've got a lot going on in my life right now, and I know I'm not crazy! It's normal I'm feeling this way, considering what's going on, I just feel like I need a little happiness-boost, and I don't want to get on medication. Any thoughts?

I have plenty of friends and I go out all the time!-- It helps sometimes! -- I'm going through a divorce right now, and I'm just trying to keep my head up through the whole thing!
I do need to start exercising more and eating better. Actually, eating more. I know it would give me energy it's just hard to take care of yourself when you've got so many other things going on!

It's normal to have some symptoms when you are going through a difficult time .. otherwise you wouldn't be human because, no matter how calm you are outwardly, the body does react to stress.
Exercise is wonderful for uplifting your spirits because when you exercise, you are releasing wee happy endorphines, which make you feel happier and more energetic.
Yoga is also wonderful for releasing stress and will help you sleep better.
When I've gone through trying times, I know that sometimes I've forgotten to eat, so try to make sure that you eat a good, healthy, balanced diet.

Best depression buster is laughter...find something to make you laugh. Pretend to laugh...get others to laugh. A laugh is a smile that bursts...so let your self burst. Sleep is nature's cure. Grab fistfulls of your problems...clench your fists then release them...shake the the problems off the end of your fingers. Quiet down for an hour or so before bed-time and try to make that a set time (even the animals do better with some routine) You are not clinically depressed when there is cause for the depression. Modify life choices rather than taking drugs. If all this does not help, St. Johnswart is an effective suggestion. Valerian helps some people with sleep problems. Be kind to you. Other people have opinions but you are the only person living your life.

It's easier to tell you to take a new approach in life and it's rather hard to overcome it. St John's Wort is good in relieving depression but it's not an elixir. So you have to take on a regular basis in order to see any positive results. However, if you are pregnant or taking any medication for your depression (like Prozac or Valium), please don't take it as the chemical reactions will go hay-wire. While herbs are on the safer side, they are still drugs (natural) nonetheless. Roman Chamomile calms unhappy people. Try making Chamomile and Lavender tea and drink like 2 cups day and night. Or you can add 5 drops of pure Roman Chamomile essential oil (rather expensive but it's worth it) into 5ml of grapeseed oil and pour into a warm bath. Soak in there for 20mins after a shower and relax. Crush some Lavender flower-buds into a small organza sacchet and put into your bag to calm you down whenever you're not at home. Play soothing but happy instrumental music and ease any tension on your mind. Think of beautiful things. If all human companionships fail, there's always God above. Although you don't see Him, He sees you. If you believe all things happen for certain reasons, you'll understand that these are the things you have to go through in life. Some things are unavoidable but they can be overcome. It's not the end of the world.

Working out will help you a lot! You dont have to go to the gym everyday or anything, but just wake up half an hour earlier and walk around the block. You will start feeling better in no time. Make sure you are eating healthy too! To much sugar and Caffine will give you emotional mood swings. Hang in there!

with no disrespect to anyone who suggested it, St John's Wort is only useful for mild depression, it can actually be harmful when used to treat more severe cases and under no circumstances must it be used alongside prescribed anti depressants.
Mild depression, is not the same as clinical depression which in most cases does benefit from anti depressant medication.
Making friends, expanding your social circle, taking up outdoor activities, exercise, all of those suggestions are practical, but if you are experiencing severe symptoms of depression , then you really have to seek medical advice before it becomes too intolerable to bear.

There is a great natural suppilment called St.John's Wort, it is all natural, safe and effective. Also, try going for a fast paced walk in the afternoon when the sun is high, the sunlight will also boost your spirits. Maybe if you have some free time, try volunteering at a place that does something that interests you, local pet rescue, local library, local old age home etc. hope you feel better

There are herbal supliments that can help a little. Look into St.John's Wort. Sometimes if your body is out of whack, your mind and emotions will be too, so try very hard to get rest and eat better.
Chocolate is a good mood lifter, unless you're allergic to it.
And just remind yourself.. it will get better and things will always work out.

It will pass. There is no pill for normal wear and tear of life. Unless you are diagnosed with clinical depression, m advice to you is to r un a mile a day, see what happens, then ask again. If you still need to.
