I'm a little confused about what you are talking about.

Many strings have what is referred to as a ball end. This type of string is often used on student violins. (Heck, I've been playing for 40 years and I use 'em.) It comes with the string and is the "mechanism" that is used to actually hold the string in at the tailpiece.
Look at these pictures:

Sometimes when the tension on the string is released when the string snaps this ball end (which frequently looks more like a little barrel or hourglass to me" pops out of the loop at the end of the string. No big deal at all!

If indeed this is what "came out with the string," you'll get another one with the new string you buy if you specify that's what you want.

If you can post a pic of what you are talking about I might be able to help more! If this didn't help, post a clarification and I'll give it another shot!
