I love her to death, but she has always been a friend to always ask for something but when she gets something she doesnt want to share. And I'm usually the one she comes running to when she needs something(food, advice, a ride, etc.) So now that I have my 1st car she calls me first for a ride. I feel bad saying no and asking her for gas, but I know I'm going to have to take action soon. I've had the car now for a week and these last 3 days I've had to give her a ride home. I just want to enjoy my car sometimes and not have to worry about my gas tank becoming emptier than I planned on. What should I do?

Tell her. Tell her that you are going to be a little bit selfish, and she shouldn't mind. Tell her that you want her to be generous toward you and leave you alone when it cmes to your car.

Tell her that you will offer rides in it when you are ready, after you've had a chance to soak up all the 'new car smell' by yourself.

Selfishness is not wrong. She wasn't born with you (nobody is) and you've GOT to start establishing some boundaries and get them respected in order to become a more happy, fulfilled person yourself. Now she should understand and be supportive (even if it kills her) so that you retain her friendship, or I am here to state that her friendship is not worth having.

Well, you've found yourself in a pickle of sorts. It could be worse.. buy a truck and everyone who moves is your best friend at the time. I guess it's time to lay down some ground rules. Explain to your friend that it's a costly proposition to drive her around. I guess it's up to you on how you want to approach the situation, as it is sticky... However you plan on dealing with it... it's better sooner rather than later becuase if you aren't careful it's going to snowball, and it's going to be too late to take action...

Tell your friend that you are not her personal escorting service. Tell her it's cool sometimes but she can't depend on you to take her everywhere she needs to go. She will keep using you if you continue to let her do so. And don't be afraid to ask for gas money...cars don't run off sunshine!
