I'm a white American - I am really against racism. I know there are mean people, nice people, bad people, good people, etc... of every color - of every ethnicity. My white American boyfriend does not feel this way... In my experience - I'm in my mid 30's, and I have observed that men tend to be more racist than the women I have known...
I must admit, I have only in recent years come in contact with muslims and/or Arabs here in America where I live (I'm in a small town). I guess there is some uneasiness that comes when you encounter different kinds of people that you are not familiar with.. For me the accent is different, the look is different, the religion is really different - I honestly don't understand much about Arabs/muslims. And I don't have much of an oppertunity to since I don't know anyone in my immediate circle of friends and coworkers. But I am not afraid of the Arab man who runs the gas station down the street. He has the best gas price in town and he's pretty nice.
I think your friends are your friends - if you are feeling this way maybe you should talk to them and try to have an open discussion about your differences, misunderstandings, fears, what ever is on each other's minds. That might be the best thing.. Maybe you have worked it up in you mind so much that you are starting to distrust your white American friends - when really it could be nothing or just a misunderstanding. Talk it out that is the only way. Good luck and best wishes.

We are a product of being told and taught hatred because we don't understand the Muslim belief or and thing diffrent from what we 've always been around. And really it just hate, people love to hate, anything different, no matter what it is. And the biggest problem is a small group that or so filled with hate , just hate, it doesn't matter if you are Muslim,Christian,or any other, will spread this hate, gets others to doing the same and the ones that are following this small hate group .don't know what they hate, they do it just because they are told to do so,people have lost the ability to think for themselves, and do the right thing. People are turning to animals, it's like devour or be devoured.....the world is really strange....and....scared right now...and people do really stupid things when they are scared....I think they loose there minds...and right now the world is crazy......I am sorry you are having such a bad time....I am a white American.....please dont fall into the same trap that you say we are in ,we all dont hate you,I have a nephew, by marriage that is Muslim..and i did have a problem at the beginning ,til I got to know him,and understand your beliefs......I am sorry ,please forgive us.

Lily, I do know what you are saying. I understand. Please don't misunderstand me though when I say that sometimes it's OK to listen to the people from your home country. Don't isolate yourself, though, regardless of what you end up believing. Do pay attention to what others are telling you. No knee-jerk reactions though. Remember that people in your home country are viewing the people in the US from outside and not from within. I have noticed that people from other countries have a view, not kind, of the US. The reason is because they aren't so close to it. I will shy short of saying that they have an objective view, but they can see things that we here in America can't, don't or refuse to see. I'm not trying to imply that they are telling the truth, but they could be seeing something that you can't see because you are viewing it from a different point than they are.
Whatever you decide to believe, try to remain focused and objectionable. It will help when everything settles. You're just confused right now and I know that this can be a really tough time. Just hang in there and it will all shake itself out.

Hate it?

Your confused...you describe yourself as an "american muslim" then say you hate americans/white people.
Just a note- american to me means something different.. For me an american is basically a displaced european. I live in NYC though so maybe its different, no one is actually from "america" that I know of.
America is a melting pot, basically the muts at the shelter....but Im going to have to stand up for this place--cause well its my home team.
Not for nothing here but you gotta realize where the hatred breeds from right? People are sore from what happened, as Im sure lots of Iraqis are unhappy of the american troops being there. In the end...friends are friends, doesnt matter...so if your confused about them, maybe they arent friends...

Lily, I am sorry you are being mistreated. I don't know why some people blame a whole group for the actions of a few. It's not fair and it's not right. Not everyone here thinks that way. It's just the most ignorant that feel that way. The friends that you have know you and Iove you. There's no reason to doubt them unless they do something to show you otherwise. I hope things get better for you soon.

This is an open invitation to be hated. Don't put things like this on the internet. I understand where you're coming from but people hate. I don't hate whites because of slavery and you shouldn't feel that you carry of all the burdens of muslims. Next time, talk to your parents or someone. Do your white "friends" hate you? You need to do some soul-searching.

Im sorry you are feeling this way.
NOONE should judge anyone as a group because of their religion, sexual preference, age, weight, race ...anything. People should always give individuals the benefit of the doubt and not make up their minds based on sterotypes.
Unfortunatly I can't tell you they don;t mean it, because there are so many ignorant people out there in the world, what I can tell you is that were not ALL like that and there are those of us out there who like a person for who they are and don't judge you as a person.

They are in a country that is being at war and are the victims of propaganda, forgive them. fear and hatred do not make for clear thinking on your part, or on theirs. But you are right to be concerned and alert to danger around you. they are not in control of their minds either.
edit
I have read the other postings above mine and they illustrate the fear and anger very well, and also the lack of knowledge.
I am wanting to echo what JB says.

You are too paranoid. Of course there is racism in the U.S. but i think this country is more tolerant than most other countries i have been to. Just watch out for yourself and don't let anyone step on your toes. If they do, smack the hell out of them, both verbally and physically as the case requires.

Quit feeling sorry for yourself and realize that it's going to happen! Racial crap has been going on in the US for ages! We just can't seem to get past that. It's really a bummer!
