Right now I am a mathematics major, but my heart is not in it at all. I am good, but unhappy. I love social and culteral history and psychology, yet somewhere I ended up going into Calculus 1 and 2. Help me!!! I am miserable, and I don't know how to turn down my professor who is trying to give me a scholarship in math, and I don't want to disappoint my father or mother. I also want to be able to have a job in the future. WHAT DO I DO!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the subjects you like are really interesting. Psychologists pay a good deal too; and I think that opportunities are really opening up to you but thay're not in your heart. That's kinda tough. I also have a friend whos parents are both strict and were very carreer driven; and they own an architecture firm. They want my friend to end up heiring their family business but she's in fine arts. Actually, she didn't totally want fine arts, she wants HRIM and wants to study it after her 1st degree but it's kinda hard because of the firm plus she's an only child. But know what, she has a very strong will. She can make decisions for herself but she also considers her parents' wishes. I don't know but I think she won't do the firm thing.... Anyways.. I guess it's really up to you. Doing the things you really like would need sacrifices. How bad do you want to follow what you want? Ae you ready for the conseqences? Is it okay for you to sacrifice? Lol. Life's really about making choices. Well, there's a lot of other great opportunities out there, it really depends on how you make it. You seem to be a really smart person and you seem to have a great future in whatever you want to do. um, hope this helps in a way! ;)

I stopped doing math and went over to classics. I really liked classics but I have to say that I kinda wish I had done math too. You should remember that after you get done with your sophmore classes it starts getting amazing. Imagine mathematically solving chess and tic tac toe!

It's around 40 credits for a major and you need 120 to graduate typically. You could major in a couple things.

A $90k loan will end up costing you an extra $15k over 20 years of compounding interest. Never underestimate free money.

I would recommend takig your electives in several different subjects. taking classes in something that will give you A's. Taking classes in something that will get you money. and taking classes in something that will get you a job. Believe me, I had a difficult time getting a job with my expert knowledge of Latin and Ancient Greek. In retrospect, I should have gotten a paralegal certificate while in school.

If you take classes in something that inspires you to get A's then you are more likely to succeed. Hopefully, you can get to know some working professionals that will mentor you and help you shape your long term goals. Go find them, they love to talk to interested students.

psst. patent attorneys must have a BS in a tech field so take those chemistry courses, work as a patent attorney for 10 years, then paint for the rest of your life.

Oh and for those people who think that the major doesn't matter. It didn't; but now it does. Go to Monster.com if you don't believe me

Your major is going to have very little effect on your career prospects. The vast majority of people are in completely different fields than they majored in in college. Go for a major that will make you happy, and don't worry about anyone else. Your professor will understand, and, hopefully, your parents will be supportive. It's important that your college years are happy, so you can get on with all that personal growth and self-discovery stuff that are the actual point of college. Don't worry about your career until later. Really. That's what the absolute hellish first year out of college is for.

Your substantial is a lot greater substantial except you're attending an Ivy league college. yet, as between the others observed, a random lib arts diploma won't get you the main suitable interest notwithstanding if its from Harvard (nevertheless you may in all risk have a miles greater suitable risk at touchdown a writing/editor interest with a harvard english diploma than one from a random state college.)

You should take a job outlook test with your school career counselor. If you don't want to disappoint your teacher just finish out the semester but don't take any more math classes after that. If you must talk to him/her about it then tell the teacher that your not interested in math as a major... he/she should understand. I recommend researching different types of careers online or in the career center. Once you change your major you will find people with very similar interests and they can give you ideas... including the teachers. Its kinda hard to figure it out but eventually you will.... just rule out what you don't like in the process.

Follow your heart. Wow, I know peolpe who have had at least 2 or 3 major changes. I think your parent's will be there for you no matter what. Nothing should change because your MAJOR changes..Peolpe change.. so its understanable if you changed your major. Do something you'll be happy with! Just explain to your professor and your parent's that you just dont think MATH is right for you and you'd rather do...sociology or psycology

Ultimately, it is ur happiness tht counts, don't be misled with the hapiness of others, very sweetly and firmly, let them know tht u want to do something else as ur not happy with maths, but make sure u really r interested in something else and its not a passing phase. ur good marks makes me wonder, mayb u enjoy maths but u've got some distraction whose interested in social and cultural history and so u think tht ur interests r not in maths.
