That is the board in the computer that controls the hard drive. Without it the system won't boot up.

The IDE Controllers is hardware that controls IDE Devices, like Hard Drives or CD-ROMS. You have two Controllers, Primary and Secondary. Each of them can have two IDE devices connected (duel fifo).

If there is a problem, it more than likely means you need to reinstall the Controller drivers.

The two ribbon cables that hook your CD or DVD and you Hard Drive(s) to the mainboard are the IDE cables.

Make sure power is off, press gently but carefully to make sure all connectors are seated fully at the mainboard, the drives...

That is usually the trouble. Sometimes when a drive dies from just being worn out, or an internatl problem, the message will pop up.

And, sometimes you will get strange messages in Microsfot products... run http://pclinuxos.com to double check that your hardwarte is good. PCLinuxOS is a liveCDrom we use for testing, and for it's great games and programs.

Your primary IDE is usually your hard drive or if you have an SATA hard drive then it's probably referring to your CD ROM.

If you only have 1 CD ROM, it could be both your hard drive and cd-rom. Something weird is definately going on with your IDE slots on your motherboard. If you know what you're doing, open your case and be sure your hard drive and cd-rom IDE cables are securely attached to your motherboard and make sure the power connectors are plugged in good as well.

If your computer is booting up, then your cd-rom is probably the cause and it's either given up on you or came unplugged somehow.
