Rent shows the problems that are unique to our generation. I have noticed that the older generations do not understand why we seem to have a heightened sense of mortality than they or the generations before them had. The "teenage sense of immortality" doesn't seem to exist anymore. This is because we live in a world full of drugs, AIDS, violence. They had problems in their generations to be sure, but they were not as widespread or "in their faces" as our generation's unique problems are. This musical takes our issues and presents them in a poignant, sometimes funny, and finally optimistic way. No one leaves the theatre afraid, and the older generation leaves with a stronger sense of understanding of us.

Don't know, wasn't all that impressed with 'RENT'.

It's okay, but it didn't leave me humming & whisling the tunes the way 'MY FAIR LADY' and 'OKLAHOMA' did.
