There is not a manufacturer in the world that has never had some problems with vehicles. Everybody remembers the Pintos that exploded, but nobody mentions the Toyotas that blew up. While the service records of some imports are pretty good, I have never had a major problem with the Fords, Chevys, or Chryslers I owned. The worst problems I had were with imports, one of which I got rid of after less than a year. I think you have over-subscribed to the myths regarding vehicles.

Well simply put : American car companies are better businesses.
Back 30 years ago, the gas guzzer made in detroit was engineered to only last so long, thus making the consumer buy more parts or more cars etc. Now in retrospect how many people take their used cars to the dealerships to be serviced? especially back then when you could work on them yourself to save money.
Toyota/Honda introduced the civic and other small, great on gas cars to enter the market and made their cars last longer.
Now-a-days, chevrolet, ford etc had to make the cars last longer from the competition from all the imports. Everyone knows a honda is a great car even at 100K miles, where chevrolets used to be all but dead at 100K.
Car makers want you to continously purchase new cars/parts from them or they wouldnt be in business any longer. If you purchased one car and it never broke down, the incentive to get another one wouldnt be too high.
Lastly....look at the most sucessful/profitable companies for the last 10 years.....Notice how many years GM has been on the top of the pile worldwide.......
That should answer this in a huge NEON sign fashion....

First of All Toyota , and Honda are not US cars, they are acually made in Japan. And they are one of the better cars. You just need to know how to buy one and one taht was not in any really bad car accidents. I have two Hondas and they run really great. My older honda has 100 thousand miles on it and it works perfectly. Aslo you need to know how to take care of a car and keep it in a good shape. You need to keep a good maintance on the car, that goes for all car models.
