IF he was he would have been ejected.

Since he wasnt, and continued to pitch 8 scoreless innings, I guess that answers your question.

Yes. And i hate how Detroit fans are saying he wasn't and if he was they would have kicked him out of the game....BS. if he didn't have anythin illegal on his hand then tell me why did he clean it or wash it before the next inning? And why would he grab his cap over and over from the back and front of it. How does he strike out so many people now, when he hes like 50 and hes not even a power pitcher? i mean please, its like when bonds head got 10 times bigger than anyone Else's and people still said "its natural" "he works out, its not steroids" are you that blind? look at how small his body was when he was with Pit., everyone knows he cheated but were not doing any thing about it as well as we all saw Rogers cheating and again we wont do anythin about it. He should have been rocked by Puljos with a home run in the 6th inning i believe(not sure what inning it was when he hit that hard ball to left Field). But what can i do right? just watch the cheaters get away with things like this because they can.
Ohh and im not a Cards fan so dont think im mad cuz im pulling for them. It gets me mad when you got alot of players playing the right way, practicing for hours to be the best. And you got these chums using illegal things to make it easier for them to succeed or make a name for them when they dont deserve it.

Look they have footage of the 'clump of dirt' in the A's, the Yankees and now the Cardinals game, it's it extremely unlikely that he had the same 'clump of dirt' in the exact same spot in all three series, i can tell you right now St. Louis, Oakland, and new york media are gonna have some fun with that lame excuse. clump of dirt. Rogers is a cheater. also that Sean Casey guy completely moved into that pitch, also cheating. I am almost glad they cheated, gives us more satisfaction when/if we win the world series. not only that i don't mind the split in Detroit as long as we win one 'there we can win three back home.

Rule 8.02 of the good book (baseball's official rules) forbids the pitcher to "Have on his person, or in his possession, any foreign substance. For such infraction of this section (b) the penalty shall be immediate ejection from the game." reports MLB's Tom Singer

G'day Simply Aubrey,

Thanks for your question.

Kenny Rogers started Game 2 and pitched 8 shutout innings. He left with the Tigers having a 3-0 lead. However, there are claims that he had a foreign substance on his hands. During Innings 1, he was seen with a rose coloured substance on his gloves. Tony La Russa was alerted of pictures and insisted that Rogers clean his glove. However, Rogers continued to pitch strongly for the rest of the game so it didn't have an impact. The umpires looked at it and found that it was nothing suspicious although Tony La Russa isn't happy.

Anyway, we have a tied world series at 1-all and an interesting series ahead. Good luck to both teams.

Regards

Cheating. Doubt that it was cheating, can anyone say without a doubt that it was pine tar. Nobody but Kenny Rogers can, and I dont think he is going to say it was pine tar. Maybe it was dirt in all of his games, in the exact same spot who knows weirder things have happened. He pitched a great game, and for one inning he had dirt on his hand.

If it was pine tar, Rogers should have been ejected, even in a World Series game. Last year, Angels pitcher Brendan Donnelly was caught with pine tar on the back of his glove. The ump tossed him on the spot and the league gave him a 10 game suspension.

What I don't get is the same thing happened to Cards pitcher Julian Tavarez a few years back, except he had some stain on his cap. The second the ump saw the stain, he ejected Tavarez. In my opinion, Rogers should have been ejected. Even if the stain on his hand wasn't illegal, he should still know to keep his hands clean when he goes out to pitch. Surely he realizes that everyone will think that he's cheating if he goes out with some stain on his hand. If you ask me, it looked like he wiped his @ss with his hand, lol.

i am a tigers and cardinals fan so im not bias in this response...before the first pitch was thrown, i noticed what looked to be pine tar before the announcers said anything, eckstein, speizo and pujols had puzzled looks on their faces when rogers threw his offspeed stuff, and i also noticed quiet a bit more movement on his stuff than usual, after the umps talked to rogers and leyland the media questioned them both about the substance on his hand, leyland said he wasn't aware of any substance and the umps never said anything to him about it even though he talked to the umps on tv after the first inning, when the media asked rogers about the substance, he avoided the question all together and just started talkin about random stuff, in past cases when pitchers are caught with foreign substances, they are asked to wash it off and are warned, in only one case have i seen a pitcher thrown out but it was his second offense, to answer your question of wether or not he was cheating...yes he definitely was.....and to comment on eveyone else's replies, la russa was contacted by the umps after the umps noticed it, tony did not tell the umps, the substance was on his left hand (pitching hand) and not his glove, the substance was definitely not dirt, it was pine tar...rogers has been caught with foreign substances several times (usually a clear spray)
