I have a 6.0 l. bowl toilet that requires holding down the handle for three seconds before fully flushing. Replacing flush mech. a good quick fix?? I don't see an alt.

Yes, replace it with a Fluidmaster. That is the brand and they are the best. You might want to go ahead and replace the flapper too. Since you will already be in there.

All good answers. Also when you install the new Fluidmaster, make sure to adjust the water level in the tank so adequate water moves to the bowl to flush it.
Usually, you can see the old water line in the tank due to deposits and other discoloration. Use that as your guide.

Replace the stopper - it's about $4/ for a cheap one - $15 for a good one.

Flapper or float ball is bad. Buy a new one. It's not the ballcock. The idiot that said replace the ballcock is wrong and should not give anyone any advice.

it may be one of those water savers with a plastic bowl inside to restrict water. Cut the plastic so more water goes down or set /bend the float to allow more water to fill

The quick answer is just to shorten the chain. You may not need new parts although they are easy to replace if you need to.

Change the flapper or you can adjust the chain on the old one to close faster.
