Yes. Like all animals, fish also need a light cycle to stimulate well-being. Even nocternal animals have a light cycle...it is just the opposite of animals that are not nocternal...instead of darkness stimulating "sleep" chemicals in the brain, nocternal animals are stimulated to sleep by an increase in light (there are some fish that are also nocternal)...if you have the light on all the time, or off all the time they are not getting the cycle they need...
Put your fish light on a timer for a 12/12 cycle...they will eat better, have less problems with disease, and if tropical or saltwater, their color maybe more pronounced...with out a light cycle, the opposite maybe true...good luck.

Yes. Actually the fish do not need the aquarium lights at all. They are just used so we can see them better.

Fish need the light, but you should not leave the light on all the time. Light makes algae ( that green stuff) grow.

Yes, I think that fish appreciate having a day/night cycle. Plus it will help cut back on algae growth.

well, i do. i've got my lights set up on a timer. they come on at around 8am and go off at 10pm.
i'm not really sure if having the lights on all the time bothers them or not. it would bother me---so i put the lights on a timer so the fish would always have a day/nite cycle.
