It doesn't hurt all that much, but looks terrible. Do you think I broke it? It's all swollen too. A few years ago I fractured a toe running into the hearth of my fireplace, I went to the emergency room and sat there for two hours; they x-rayed me and then sent me home. Will I be okay just letting it heal do you think? I seem to be able to walk okay, it just twinges a little......

you should be fine. doctors won't do much for a broken toe other than to tell you to stay off of it.
make sure to keep pressure off of it for a little while and elevate the foot whenever possible. you can ice it for 10-15 mins at a time to help relieve pain.
take ibuprofen 200-400mg every 6 hours for pain and swelling but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours.
report to the emergency room if the toe or your foot becomes cold to the touch or begins to turn blue. this indicates that the circulation to that foot is being obstructed and you'll need to have it looked at.
hope u feel better soon

The reason why they sent you home when you fractured your toe is because they can't do anything for a broken toe, unfortunately (why, I don't know...I just know they can't.) Your toe may be broken but if it doesn't hurt too much, it'll be fine. Maybe put some ice on it and try to stay off it as much as possible. If it hurts take aspirin or tylenol or ibuprofen. I hope it gets better soon!!!

Actually there is really not much you can do if you did break it.. there just going to tell you... Keep your foot up, put ice on it and stay off of it. You may have re-fractered or broke it or broke some blood vessels. I did something similar with the door to the bathroom.. i went to the podiatrist which i was going to anyway. and he said. i did what they would have told me anyone.. but I also taped to the toe next to it and kept it wrapped when i wore shoes so it wouldn't get irrated and and soon as i came home.. i would take it off elevate my leg and put ice on it.

Since you can be able to walk okay, you will heal up soon. :) Try having a stapler dropped on your foot...now that hurts. This happened to me about 2 years ago, but yes it turned the top of my foot black and blue, but I healed up just fine later. So will you. :)

Next time try dropping a red and green pan on your little toe.
They are not as heavy as the black and blue ones!

If you can wiggle it, then it is not broken, and pretty soon you will heal up.

I think that you will be fine. Are you limber enough to kiss it? (that always helps ;-)
