Hey all! I'm 19, I'm a freshman in college, and seriously, this is one of the only times in my life where I have wanted to wear make-up. Problem is, I don't know how, like what colors work and whatnot. Also, i have acne. so... yeah LOL also, i don't know the order of stuff, which are less important than others (like using eye make-up without blush and whatever) I'm very illiterate here as you can tell. I'm white, very pale, can't get a tan -_- Any advice on how to apply make-up, what colors to use, covering up acne? if you want too see a pic, my site is http://babeh-fli.deviantart.com and i'm the person with the likes and dislikes. Thank you very much!

Since I can't see you in person, and it's hard ot tell from a pic...I say, go into a department store (i.e. Macy's...) and have them give you a mini-makeover. You may have to schedule an appointment, but I think they do them for free sometimes. They will also be able to advise you on make-up tips, and products that are right for your skin. You can get all the basics, and go to a chaeper store and buy less expensive products.

This is the order in which I apply my make-up. BTW, my skin gets oily and I'm acne prone, so I make sure to use a toner to close my pores, and during the winter an oil-free moisturizer (sometimes just on certain areas of my face). I find that the least abrasive products for my skin are Aveeno products. Anyway...here's the order I apply my make-up after skin care: concealer (under my eyes, a little around my nose, and of course...on my blemishes...be sure to blend!), foundation next (I don't use it everyday...my skin stays clearer when I don't), powder, blush (start w/ the apples of your cheeks and softly brush up your cheekbones towards your temples), eyeshadow, eyeliner, curl my lashes, then apply mascara.

Like I said, try going to a cosmetics counter, or bring a girlfriend, sister, Mom etc. to help you find the right colors. :)

The easiest way to answer this is to visit the Clinique counter at a dept. store. They'll do the makeup for you, and tell you what formulas are good for your skin. Just because you do that, doesn't mean you have to buy the stuff. You can run out to the drug store and buy similar stuff. Also, flip through some makeup books at Barnes and Noble- that'll help, too.
I used to model, have taken classes on makeup, and have struggled with acne, so here's a few pointers.
-Don't try to darken your skin with foundation. If you're pale, go with it and match your skin as close as you can. I use Revlon colorstay foundation, which is not greasy, and covers well all day so you don't have to worry about re-applying it all day. (And I have tried it all.)
If your skin is dry, even though you have acne, moisturize it first with a water-based moisturizer- (I use nuetrogena oil free moisturizer. It never breaks me out. Let it "dry" while you brush your teeth or somethin.)
Set your Foundation with a loose powder with a brush, not a puff, and use one that's called translucent or colorless- it's easiest.
As for the rest, if you aren't familiar with makeup, I'd stick with nuetral colors like nudes or peaches, definely use blush (the color you blush in naturally) if you are going to wear foundation, use a coat of mascara or two, and apply some lipgloss or a shear lipstick. If you have acne, don't wear makeup that is glittery or shimmery- it just calls attention to it, and I would use a powder blush, not a creme one. Stick with natural colors and avoid trendy stuff- a fresh, pretty face is always in style.
Most of the cosmetic companies have really helpful stuff to help you pick the right formulas for your skintone and type, so visit websites, check out the cosmetics aisle, and go let someone fix you up for free at the mall.

my advice to you would be to go to a local dept store and get a free colour consultation done. Dont be afraid to speak your mind what you are comfortable what you like dont like etc. they will be able to really match colours to your skin tone as they will be able to test them. If not get a friend that you trust to go to a local store that has a lot of testers and they can tell you what looks good. Judging from your pic i can see that you have fairly pale skin.

1. i would advise you to get a tinted moisturizer if your like the other pale skinned people i know you prolly burn pretty easily so avoid the tanning booths! a tinted moisturizer will add some colour with the sun damage, as you built colour eventually you can use a bronzing powder but wait until you have some colour first.

2. Get a decent foundation this is one of the most important pieces of makeup cuz if its not your skin colour it can look really off. I would recommend the new L'oreal infalable foundation its stay on through sweat touch etc. and it will last you through the whole day.

3. Get a concealer stick for acne areas under eye circles other blemishes and finish your foundation with a light finishing power this will help to set everything cover girl makes a nice light one.

4. i would recommend a nice brown/mocha daytime eyeshadow for you and for an evening look you can get a nice brown with a shimmer to really make your eyes pop. Almay (available in drug stores) make a set of eyeshadows that best compliment your eye colour. The best method to make your eyes pop is to use a light vanilla or highlighting colour sweep it all over the entire eye lid specifically under the brow bone then sweep the lid with your darker colour of choice it looks like you have smaller eyes so try to keep the eye liner to a minimum but a little across the top lid won't hurt just dont go too heavy

5. Use a black mascara curl your eyelashes first you can buy any brand of lash curler if you get a metal you can heat it with a blowdryer a bit first for that better curl then apply 1-2 coats depending on what effect you are going for.

6. rule of thumb if you with heavy makeup on the eyes keep the lips more natural a shiny clear gloss can go a long way and your natural peachiness will come through.. and the reverse if you want heavy lips keep the eyes to a minimum you dont want the clown effect keep it modern

7. a light coral blush suits almost all skin types should you want blush or you can purchase a highlighting stick/powder that can be used instead of blush in key areas -under the brow bone-along the cheeks-in your eye corners to open up your eyes

Hope that helps!

I'm a Mary Kay consultant and can send you samples of everything you need from start to finish with complete instructions on how to use each product. That way you can try everything first before you have to go out and spend money and decide what feels most comfortable for you to wear. Depending on what you feel is your best feature will depend on which feature will be more important to you to accentuate. I live in a college town so work with college students very frequently and can give you some quick tips on looking good without taking a lot of time in case you have an early morning class :)

well first for the acne i would suggest a face wash for everyday. then get cover up that matches your skin tone and put that on the red areas. Then use a pressed powder compact that is a bit darker than your skin color. try not to put to much on. for your eyes, i'd say a tan color just a tiny bit lighter than brown.DONT put it covering all the way up to your eyebrow. stop about half way. use mascara for your eye lashes and brown eyeliner just below your botton eyelashes and above your top. that should do it with your eyes. for your lips clear gloss. and tan type of blush. i'm pretty much a girly girl so i hope i helped!! good luck!!!

oh ya i just thought of this. you could go to the mall and one of the deparnment stores and in the makeup section you cant get a makover the will be able to help you a lot with what colors go good with you.

1. moisturizer or face primer
try: MAC face primer
2. foundation
Try:powder foundation
3.eyeline
4.eyeshadow
5.blush
6.lip stick/ lip gloss
