I was using ethereal and I have a lot of incoming and outgoing UDP packets on port 44942. I was curious what happens on that port. Thanks for your help

44942 is not a service port – therefore it doesn’t have assign use by virtue of any universal agreement (as ports 1-1024 do). Still some applications use exactly this port for number of different things:

If possible in settings, whichever of your application uses it, it always would be good call to change it to different for safety reasons (just so no one could guess).

This is just a guess, but I think that Bearshare uses that port. So does Panda Antivirus for updates. Do you have either running on your network?
