if you can find a plumber that deals with them, try and find a RINNALI water heater, they are tankless water heaters. you never ever run out of hot water, they are 5 times more energy efficent than even the best regualr water heater and they take up 1/4 the space. on average they cost about $500 more than a regular water heater. the good part is that they last 3 times as long, and when they do break down after there 20-25 year life expectancy it is a very small cost to fix them, you wount have to buy a whole new unit. they come with a great warranty, all in all they are about the best water heater you can buy

There are alot of good, reputable businesses in the water heater buisiness. The question is.. how much are you willing to spend?
There big wharehouses like home depot, sears ,loews, etc. Are probably the ones to get a good price on one,if you install yourself.
But remember to get ALL the misc. parts you might need too.
If you decide to have them install it,they will probably be the most expensive. But,you get a warranty...very important. And they know exactly what they are doing. Then there is the phone book. Now years ago,I worked for a business called...Water Heaters Only. I thought at the time, they had the best prices, and sometimes the worst prices. Ive seen two to three hundred dollar differences for the same installation,(at different lacations). For no apparent reason. Except for the fact that the person who paid less was able to bargain his way through it. If you can sweet talk yourself a good deal, then they are willing to accomadate you..Oh,and by the way, almost all water heaters in this country are built by maybe one or two manufactures. They just put different names on them. So they are for the most part, pretty much the same.

Don't buy from Lowes, last I read they had problems with some of their heaters, I would check Sears or some of the appliance stores or ask a good plumber which brand he would recommend.
