Electrophoresis, a chromatographic technique, was used by Linus Pauling to separate and study haemoglobin S, which causes sickling in red cells of afflicted individuals.

Computer Science is more where the money is. Law enforcement (like a police officer, etc.) is something you don't even have to go to college for really. Take an intro to both, but you will make a lot more money in computer science.

I have used TLC (thin layer chromatography) to determine if my organic chemistry reaction was complete. I have tested synthesized products for purity using HPLC (high pressure liquid chromatography) and GC-MS (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry).
