Real Madrid because they dominate in futbol (soccer) and are more widely known to the rest of the world outside the USA than the other teams you mentioned.

Manchester United might be what some people think it is. However , it isnt. True , Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. True , the top soccer players are top paid players.
But when it comes to recognition(popular like the q said) , There is no team recognized in the world like the New York Yankees. No one comes close. In south Korea , Soccer also is the biggest sport. However , when I was growing up in Korea at 8 (1984) , There were only few things i knew outside south koreea. It was Statue of Liberty , Ronald Reagan , Great wall of China and the New York Yankees.
See , Manchester United and the Lakers might be big , However , New York is the most popular city in the world and the yankees are the team that has the history.
You can take a vote all around the world, I will guarentee you New York yankees will dominate with over 50% of the vote. Remember , you did say popular and not "liked". Personally I hate the yankees.
