It's very common to drop a bike at low speeds in parking lots, at lights, etc. If you've done it, join the club. Most riders wind up doing it sometime.

I will say however, that the funniest thing I've ever seen was when I was about 17 and pulling up to a red light with a big, burly Harley guy in front of me. I don't know what his deal was, but he came to a complete stop and somehow *forgot* to put his legs down! He just stopped and fell over, never doing anything to catch himself. First thing he did when he jumped up was look back at me to see if I noticed. Man was it hard not to laugh!!!

One day I was putting around town on my Honda SL350 Scrambler and thought I would be cute and squish a pop can someone had thoughtfully left standing up in the road just a few feet from a stop sign. I had the front brake on slightly and I was slowing down to stop when the front tire hit it. The can went flat and proceeded to act pretty much like a banana peel - the front wheel went one direction and I went the other. I wasn't hurt but it sure was embarrassing.

Yeah, it do happen. I've been riding for 35 years, got well over half a million 2 wheel miles and about 2 months ago dropped mine at a stop sign. Yep, its embarrassing. The guys still rag on me about that 'cause I've always been considered an excellent rider.

I wasn't at a light, but a corner. There was gravel and downward slop, so over the bike went. I hopped off alright but the bike flooded. The first thing I did was look around to see if anyone saw me, then thought I broke my bike. That was on my Kawi; then I got my Sporty and I tipped that in the driveway, all slow motionish. Lol- wasn't used to the new kick stand. So yeah, most of us have done this.

Yes, my husband and I did! He was driving it and I was riding behind him - he was a beginner too and the motorcyle was a Yamaha ..something .. it was a very BIG, heavy cycle. We had our helmets on, cruised up to a stop sign, he put both his feet down to balance, but in a few seconds we started listing to the left and going over. We both scrambled, jumped off in time and over it went. Not easy to get that very HEAVY bike back up, but he did. Evidently, it just takes some practice because I don't think he did it again. Or if it did, he didn't tell me.

My memory is not what it used to be but it seems like I did when I was a dumb kid of seventeen in 1969. Most recently I had to ride Yahama 750 seca to work with just the front brake because my boss told me to get to work or I was fired and he did not care if I just had front brake only. It was raining and when I tried to stop at a stop sign, I went down. That was in 1993. Other than that no, but my wife did one day when she was riding my 1100 Yahama Silverado. That was last year. This year it was not at a red light or stop sign but I had my frst wreck in 37 years of riding and a guy ran out in front of me and I was going 50 miles an hour, which is the legal speed limit. Messed my face up, but like a friend of mine said when he saw me," Thank God you weren't pretty to begin with".

Yep. Practice in an empty parking lot or large empty space with no vehicles. Practice your starts and stops and many speeds. Use the striped lines as your "stop sign" and get it to a science. You can avoid dumping your bike if you practice. Good riding.

I've come close, my shoestring got tied into my fwd control, and I lucckily realized it befor I came to the light. I used my other leg to stick my landing. Other times It was close when arriving at a light and there is sand, oil or even gravel under foot that can cause the landing foot to slip!
