Basic idea, you are a wizard and you are trying to defeat another wizard. You can summon creatures to fight for you, cast spells at your opponent or to make your cretures better or his worse.

To do anything in the game, you need mana. You get mana from land. You can play one land a turn, as long as you have one in your hand. Mana comes in different types, which match up with the different colors of cards.

You begin the game with 7 cards in your hand. You draw one card each turn. During your turn, you can use your mana to cast spells or summon creatures from your hand. You can also attack with creatures you already control. During you opponents turn, you can use some spells called instants.

The object of the game is to get your opponent to 0 life. Each player starts with 20 life.

Still with me? The complicated part stems from the fact that each player owns his own set of cards and builds his own deck. There are literally 1000's of cards available now, meaning that in theory you have next to no idea what your opponent might pull out of his deck.

Go to http://www.wizards.com/magic/playmagic/default.asp?dcmp=ILC-MTGCOMNEW and download the playable demo. I learned to play with the previous version and its a good program. Click here for the beginners rulebook ---->http://www.wizards.com/magic/rules/MTG9EDRulebook_EN.pdf

Magic isn't as hard as you think it is. I recommend that after playing the demo for a while you find a card shop. Magic players are always willing to help a newbie learn the ropes. Watch games and ask questions. When you're ready to buy cards I recommend 9th Edition starter deck and 9th Edition packs. They're basic cards without any fancy abilities or too much rules text. Good luck and welcome to the world of Magic.

Go to Wikipedia. Type in Magic the Gathering, after which with ease click on at the seek outcomes that fits what you want. If it is not there, (which it will have to be), then scroll to the backside of the reveal and there will have to be hyperlinks to different websites. Be definite to assess them. Hope this is helping!
