The student to teacher ratio in most schools prevents teachers from having time to work with students on a 1 on 1 basis. Also, class time is better spent going over new material, rather than repeating materials that can be better practiced at home. Speaking as a teacher myself, I do not have enough time to cover the necessary content in class and have the students practice what they know in class, too. Try researching the day of a Japanese student in Japan. You'll appreciate the fact you have as many options as we do in the US. Also, this prepares you for college where it is ALL homework and no classwork! It really stinks!
