All great answers so far. I can't add anything more, but would like to say that sounds like a great trip! My husband won't fly (we live in Rhode Island), so this might be the way to get him to go. Thanks, I didn't realize you can rent RVs!
Have a great time.

Hi I think I am pretty experianced in this area. I have traveled by motorhome and camper 16 times, and by air so many times I have lost count. My travels by motorhome have been the best experiances. As an Insurance agent I advise you to purchase though your insurance company or buy through the RV Rental place loss of use coverage. This coverage is if you should have an accident and the motorhome is out of commission and unable to be rented this will save you hundreds of dollars. Ok, now as for the gas go on line and track your route and where the gas stations are and price per gallon. Beware the RV eats a large amount of gas. Check out several different models. For a family of four you will not want anything smaller then a 32 foot. By renting a motorhome you will really save on eating out and hotel rooms. Plan your meals and that will give you a good idea of the food cost. Be sure to put aside extra money for toll bridges and also for little trinkets along the way. Also you will need to map out the camping sights for water/electric hook up. You do not mention what time of year you are traveling, different times of year have different fee per season. This is the best experiance for kids but it is up to the parents to keep it interesting. Depending on the age of the children make sure you have plenty of things to keep them busy and take time out every three hours for the kids to stretch and get fresh air. You also do not mention how long a trip this is so it is hard to give you a ball park on cost. Have a safe trip.

I do not know how much your rental cost will be but we traveled from Cape May, NJ to Orlando with a 28 foot 5th wheel. It cost about $500 each way for gas, and the trip took 2 days so we spent about $45 each way on campsites just for overnight. When we got there we stayed at Tropical Palms in Kissimmee. It was within walking distance of OldTown and within 15 minutes driving distance for SeaWorld and Walt Disney World. You can buy your park tickets right at the campground. Anyway, our total cost was around $1350, but of course we didn't have to rent an RV.

Cruise America is a reputable company. However, I recommend that you buy accident insurance before you hit the road. I use American Automobile Association (Auto Club) and enjoy the service, support, trip tics, maps and information concerning local attractions. They will also help plan your trip and suggest safe places to get off the road to sleep
The RV’s obviously do not get good mileage, but price per gallon is dropping right now. You should estimate 400 to 500 USD for fuel. But remember that you will keep expenses low by visiting the grocery store and sleeping onboard along the way. Have fun!
