Bonfire night is on Sunday this year.
Last year the small bonfire we had on a grassed area near my house was still smouldering the next day.So i decided to get rid of some old newspapers.2 fire-engines came up the main road with the blues+2's on.I thought 'wonder where theyre going?'Next, they were putting out my tiny fire+the police came to tell me i was damaging public property.Legal only on the 5th.Most fires will be on 4th.Will this be legal?

if the smoke is flowing into the road and can cause a car accident then its not allowed any time but they tend to be ok over the bon fore weekend

first of all, why were you lighting a bonfire In a public area when you have your own house. That suggests you have either a garden or yard of your own

It is illegal to burn anything on public property without permission, even on the 5th November. It is also illegal in most areas to burn domestic waste, which newspapers are, and generally illegal to burn anything during the day. So adding fuel to a smouldering fire was rather careless. (why didn't you burn it on the night of the 5th?)

why not get yourself an old metal drum, fire pit of garden burner for the next time you need to burn anything - including on Bonfire night. If nothing else, at least it isn't under public scrutiny. I have a chimnea, which also doubles as a BBQ... ;-) perfect for burning any time

I suppose you are lucky some jobsworth didn't charge you with arson.

This is general bonfire info...
