Bamboo sheds an awful lot of leaves and needs a lot of sun. Rather messy as a houseplant.

Various kinds of dracaenas are possibilities and you won't have to sweep under them several times a day.

There's a beautiful, low-maintenance, easy to grow, low light loving bamboo-looking palm that is available. It's Rhaphis Palm.
The Downside... super expensive.

There are some hardy bamboo's you can grow in your yard (in USDA hardiness zone 5). I was thinking of Phyllostachys nigra (black bamboo). I don't think that those will winter indoors however.

I hope that this helps
Good luck-

I have tried growing palms indoors the tropical variety is majesty, I think, Available at home depot, wal-mart etc. Only problem is brown scale because of low indoor humidity.

Easy way out is a great looking "real" artificial plant with tiny white lights in branches added if you want a great nighttime look

Try the Bamboo Palm. It gets tall eventually, and doesn't mind living indoors. Chameadora Sefreizii - or something like that.

You could look for shade loving plants but to be honest most plants need some kind of light.
