All right, 'fess up.

All you players, what are your superstitions? Don't change your shorts if you're on a scoring streak? Left elbow pad *then* right elbow pad? Don't shave during playoffs?

I'm finding out that even rec players have their quirky little superstitious habits.

Personally, I don't get on the ice without chewing gum. It started out that I chewed gum to keep from grinding my teeth during games, but now I can't/won't play without it. I once sent someone to the rink vending machine to buy gum for me.

So there's my little quirk.

What's yours??

I try to stay away from things that are not 100% in my control. Try that is but somethings just aren't.

I am a goalie and yes odd is putting it mildly.
One quirk is that I must bark in the 1st period, wolf wolf bawoooo.

OK next at the start of the third I must tap each post and kiss the crossbar.

OK the next is that if there is a Blondie watching I will play better. This is out of my hands and had invited Friends to come to big games just to get an edge.

my superstition is that i don't have one really (i guess that could be superstitious too)

but in all honesty i personally think sometimes it can be overrated because in the end you might actually psyche yourself out before a game..normally our lives are busy enough, what with work or school and somedays we won't have time to get that 'special' pre-game meal in or be able to drive that same route to the rink cuz of traffic. there will be at times something to prohibit or disrupt your superstitions... some people like to think if it more as routine rather than superstitious but for me i just continue throughout my day like any other day, including game days.
sometimes i don't realize it but maybe i am actually doing the same things every game day but i am just oblivious to it all.

maybe one time i will make a journal of what i do on the day of my games for about a month and see if i have any game day habits that i am routinely doing without really thinking about them.

but overall i feel i am just carrying on throughout the day like any other day!

I have to brush my teeth before every game and go to the bathroom.

Oh, and I always have to wear this hockey necklace I have during the game. The one game I forgot it, we lost. Big time.

With my gear, it is whatever is closest. I'm a goalie, and I don't want to be doing too much moving before I get on the ice.

I think this is a great question. I always get teased because of my superstitions. Now I know I am not alone. Thanks!

When I play net:

Left skate first. Left leg pad first. Blocker first (left). During warmups I always allow the first shot on goal by me. I've been doing this since I was 8. No point in changing things now.

When I skate out... Nothing.

When i played, i had to have this certain type of helmet, because if i didnt, it seemed like i didnt play as good. I had to skate a couple of laps around the rink.

i like this question

i always tape my pads left to right, and don't cut my hair from the first game through the season.

i also tap both posts and shoot my first shot of the net wide during warmup.
