That's why I quit eating meat 5 months ago....it's horrible. After reading jazzies comment it goes to show just how sick people are for eating animals that eat their own crap and puke...

So, it's actually a really difficult way of killing cattle. I used to work in the knife business for one of the "names" and still am in it under my brand and the Cold Steel demos ... are a lot of hype. If nothing else, they really don't show you how many takes are needed to do some of the things they do. But, don't take my word for it. Go down to a local liquidators and buy yourself a cheap machete. Doesn't really matter what brand, just needs to have a good long blade - at least 18" and into the 20s if you can get it. Don't pay to much, certainly not more than $20 - $30 unless you really want one for something. Make sure it has a reasonably comfortable enough handle to swing well. Now, swing by a grocers or something and see if they will give you a bunch of cardboard boxes, and get a bunch of zip ties. Make yourself some cardboard posts - start at 4" square and go up from there to 12", 18" or 24" square or so. (so 4" across x 4" thick and long enough that you can clamp it into something.) Starting at the 4" see how thick you can go where you are cutting all the way through in one clean cut. Then make a mark on the cardboard post and see if while making the cut you can hit the mark as well. That's a little like what decapitating a cow would be. They have thick ridged neck bone structures as part of their spine. Heavily muscled in the top part of the neck less so in the bottom. If you get too close to the head (which you want to be close to the head because neck meat can be tender) you'll bounce off the base of the skull, if you get too low the neck gets huge. If you have a good deal of practice it can be done. Probably not every time, but now and again, probably. However, it's not how I would want to do it ... I've tried the little experiment I've mentioned. (incidentally, if you can get the really, really thick rope that cruiseliners use and attempt to cut that free hanging that's not a bad simulator either - but is much more expensive to just get.) For hindus it is not ethical at all. They dont eat cows or poultry and not even fish or sea food , for them killing animals is not ethical and I find that they are right, and they live in a healthy way too, It is so disgusting to see how they kill cows and poultry so that we put them on our tables as our food , the bible does tell us that when Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden they use to eat fruits from the trees and that is how God wanted them to eat but later on when Man sinned we became omnivores and we still are sinners eating animals .It is not fair to kill animals and use them as food nor is it healthy since meat has proven to be cancirogenic..

This is a question that really does not deserve an intelligent answer, but here it goes ( and points for me). Putting yourself on a level with a cow or chicken means you value youself not to highly. The what if's you mention do not exist okay! The fact is man has dominion over all things except man. You were created to be higher than a cow or a chicken or a whale or a dog or a cat. You have a mind, you have will, you have emotion. That puts you in a higher class than something that operates off of instinct alone. A dog will lick you in the face then lick his behind. A chicken will eat his own 'crap'. A cow pukes up his food and eats it all over again SLOWLY. Is this the level you want to be on. That's why they call them animals and us Homo Sapiens. Let me translate, human beings (people!).

Homo Sapiens is an omnivore, and meat is a favored source of protein. Protein is necessary for our continued health.
alternate sources of protein are not really feasible, since we don't have the surfaces necessary to plant the crops that would provide the population with the needed protein, and let's not even speak of the wilderness to support all the animals we'd have to hunt.
Also, we raise those animals, so if it was not to kill them and eat them, they would not be there in the firt place.
So, yes, it is ethical to kill and eat the beasts, and religion, which is nothing if not practical endorses it.

Is it ethical to kill plants and trees and eat them and use them to build our houses? Even though by doing so it lessens our oxygen supply thus harder to breathe and worse air conditions and more pollutions? Cows and Poultry aren't smarter. We humans where given our intelligence our strength because we where made to dominate this planet. We are the ones who give animals rights. We are the ones who say what is ethical and what is not. Cows and poultry are good sources of protein and food and there will be more born. People who preach about how killing animals is wrong and eating plants is right are full of crap. Animals reproduce more quantities than plants. Plants give us oxygen while animals.......well they are animals. Religions allow it because God made us dominate and gave us the power to do whatever we please. God asked for sacrifices why would he care if we ate them? That's just my opinion of course.

Um, why 'does' religion allow that. Not 'do'. I'm assuming you're vegetarian? Geez, come on! "cows and poultry were smarter and could use humanity as their food?". Come on!

I am a vegetarian!! I won't eat anything that has a face or a mother. My religion has nothing to do with that, I just refuse to be personally - directly or indirectly - responsible for the death of any animal. But if others want to eat meat, that's their choice.

Hmmmmmmm, well, imagining all we want doesn't change reality. Animals are still animals, not another "type" of person.
In my religion (Christian) animals are allowed for consumption as a source of protein. Animals should be raised and harvested humanely.
