Based on what you told me, it sounds a lot like the radio classic, "D'yer Mak'er", By Led Zeppelin.
(Jimmy Page: Electric & Acoustic Guitars, Robert Plant: Vocals, John Paul Jones: Bass & Marimba, & John Bonham: Drums & Percusion)
The title is pronounced: "Jer-MAY-ker", a variation on the word "Jamaica", which is a reference to the song's obvious Reggae influence.
It was 1st realeased in 1973, on the album "Houses Of The Holy".
Not really Zep's greatest achievement, but you gotta give 'em props for being bold enough to try it, & it really isn't that bad for a bunch of White guys from England trying to do a Reggae song, especially since most of the stuff they did was Hard-rock & Blues based.
