Pick your battles! My mom was always throwing a fit when I didn't do her chore of the day! Now that I have kids I realize that spending time with my kids is way more important than a spotless house. Do I have expectations? Yes. Do my kids do their share of cleaning/picking up? My oldest, yes. The other is a year old. Also, are you setting a good example by doing your share? If not, you will only make her resent you and a clean house! Your ultimate goal should be helping to raise a child, who will become a productive and successful member of society one day. Watch what you are teaching your daughter is important!

If you feel she is to be "Dealt" with, then tell her what your expectations are to make your home a cooperative and functioning household. This is great in the form of a "Family Constitution". We have ours posted on the refrigerator. It states that Mom is responsible for.... Dad is responsible for... Son is responsible for... Son is reponsible for... to create a happy and comfortable home. We have all signed it and guess what we have taught our oldest an important social studies lesson! Remember our nation's constitution also has the capablility of being amended and so is our family's.

I have lived and I have seen the consequences of over-reacting to a small thing. It makes the big things no big deal, because you will flip out over it too.

A great book for parenting is Grace Based Parenting. It is a Christian based guide that has helped me as a parent and as a middle school teacher.

You are a sorry **** answer for a mother if you dont no how to disepline your own child! Why would you come on yahoo and ask that question? And ALL your question from the time before. You really are a no-hoper if your serious! The punishment should be under your terms not people around the world on yahoo! Ah! You have made me mad! You sound like a air head! This has to be someone else someone really immature to ask these stupid questions and not a mother. Are you getting off on how many people respond to you. Is that what your trying to do, see if you can get the most respones out of the entire yahoo site.

Get a grip. How old is she and just how important is it to vacuum her room? Kids have lives too! If it bothers you that much, shut the door and don't look at it. Did you even bother to ask why she didn't vacuum? Did she have homework or studying to do? How often do you think it's necessary to vacuum a room? If it's a part of her routine weekend chores that you and she decided on, then take away phone use for a day, TV for a night, I mean, come on, she didn't rob a bank, this is a minor offense.

If you are serious about being livid, the issue is much larger than vacuuming. go to a counselor.

Dear Joan:

If your girl forgot to vacuum her room I urge you to consider giving her a break. I don't know how old she is but be thankful she isn't doing drugs, having sex, running wild. Course she might not be over 15 yet. However, I feel a reprieve is in order, unless she is a habitual repeat offender. It's good to see a mom who is apparently guiding their child the right way but let's not go overboard. Coat hangers are completely out of the question!

how often do you vacuum your room? Why do parents push kids to clean their rooms and the parents rooms are a disaster!

I'd explain the reason why cleaning is a good thing maybe they'll get into the habit of cleaning without some psychotic/neurotic parent telling them to.

The word forgot needs no punishment. It's natural to forget things especially if it is not something one likes to do. Maybe you should leave a note on the day she needs to vacuum.

1st how old is she? Have you been taking care of the vacuum cleaner?(empty the filter/catcher change the bag). Is it in good working order?

How often does she forget?
Good grades in school?

You need to chill out in the corner!

Are you rewarding her? or just scolding her?

Remember she be the one to bury you. And put you in a bad senior citizen home. Will you be the one to push her buttons to have her run away and be a problem teen? And you just grow older and more bitter?

One rule, no more eating in her room, if that leading to cracker/cookie messes to be vacuumed up.

first of all, To be that mad becouse your daughter didnt vacuume her room today, theres a problem. Secondly, by not vacuuming her room, shouldnt exactly deserve punishment, just tell her she cant go out till its done or something. I think maybe you should calm down a little bit!
