Here's what would happen: Rich women (who rarely get unintentionally pregnant anyway cause they can afford norplant and other birth control) will still be able to find a doctor to do it. they will just have to pay a little more.
Poor women will either have "back allley" abortions, have the kids and fill up all the orphanages past capacity, or raise them, and many will be mistreated. 17-20 years after the ban, crime will sky rocket as these unwanted children reach maturity.
That's the dark secret that the anti abortionists don't talk about. Who will feed all these extra mouths? Who's going to adopt all these extra kids? They don't get adopted now, imagine millions more orphans every year. That money has to come from somewhere, your taxes.
Oh, and forget free birth control. that's a sin too. So, we won't give you birth control, won't let you abort, but then won't give you welfare to support the kid, and won't adopt the kid ourselves. Freakin hypocrites.

Well although it seems like Americas is moving back socially (to the 50's lol), I did read one article on how young womens support of abortion was waning but not due to religion neccesarilly, but due to complacency that they will never be in certain situations.
When people are given the right to do something, after a while they begin to take it for granted.
Basically, after a year or so, all hell would break loose. Especially for the reason you mentioned above. Women are less subservient than they were in the 70's. I don't think they would put up with it once they were in the shoes of their predecessors.
Life is not pretty, all you can do is make the best decisions that you can.

A black market would develop, causing the abortion pill to become a valuable commodity, so at least there would be fewer "back alley" abortions than before Roe vs Wade.
But no matter what, there will be many more lives in peril than the cortex-free embryos our pro-lifers are trying to save. There will be unwanted children, undereducated parents and an ocean of resentment between them. The programs that might help them to still lead successful lives won't exist, since the same people in power that oppose abortion, ironically oppose helping those in need.
It's ok though, because the kids that result from such unwanted pregnancies will probably grow up so maladjusted and angry that they'll find a way to ruin the lives of the very people who fight so hard to make sure they had their "right" to exist in the first place.
It's funny to think that the religious right wingers are unwittingly sending their own children into a hellish future...

i'm outraged at numerous solutions to this question. till you're put in that place decrease than those situation, who're you in finding out? I, first of all, doubt that it is going to likely be made unlawful. notwithstanding if it is, the courts will could return to a decision that a fetus is someone and all states could agree. this might then flow hand in hand with people who homicide a pregnant lady and could no longer get sentenced for one homicide, yet 2. this would possibly on no account fly. there is too lots controversy attempting to return to a decision while a fetus is someone. Punishment might could be guy or woman in keeping with circumstances, which returned, is time ingesting and a few thing it quite is not needed. talking for each individual who's had an abortion, supply your heads a shake!

You're right. History confirms it. A lot of women died trying to perform their own abortions, or got them from back alley "doctors" which resulted in bleeding to death, or dying from infections.
That said, it's a complex issue beyond the mechanics of the procedure. Every woman I've known who has had an abortion seems to be haunted by it. It seems to have damaged their souls. Like I said, this is a complex topic. As an aside - thank G*d for effective birth control!

IMHO, more children would be born and starved, beaten or left for dead..there would be an uprise on black market for child porn or other BS, and aside from the self done abortions, I bet you have crooked doctors charging an arm and a leg for "private abortions" which could either kill you or make it so you can not give birth again.
Which would make Maury's ratings go higher, and well, thats just wrong.

Making abortions illegal will not stop them, it will just put women at serious risk to end unwanted pregnancies with back alley abortions. Existing life is not as precious, it would seem, to the zealots that scream murder.
Also, Christians won't have anything to bomb. Oh, wait, then they can concentrate on bombing Muslims and Muslim children. And Muslims that are pregnant.
Opposed to abortion, DON'T HAVE ONE!!
Forced pregnancy increases church membership.
Keep your laws off my body.
Make EVERY child a wanted child.
Peace.

I believe women would perform more dangerous abortions on themselves too. I also think that after time, couples would seriously consider the consequences of unprotected sex. If they knew that there was no way out of pregnancy, ie. abortion, then maybe we would reconsider the decisions we make when it comes to having unprotected sex. However, there are cases where I think abortion is necessary, such as rape victims or fetuses that have terminal diseases in the womb.

I think women would be careful who they had sex with. They would use birth control. The rate of STD's would go down since people would be more careful with their sexuality. Alot of people at the abortion clinics would be out of jobs.
Since I never wanted to have an abortion, I did things to prevent pregnancy. Since they teach birth control in schools and condoms are readily available, people would actually know how to use them. They could save a lot of money. They get free condoms and they wouldn't have to pay for an abortion so often.

It would a terrible thing to happen. I couldnt agree with you more - Im sure more women would perform dangerous actions with harsh consequences, even life threatening. It would be like going back into the dark ages.
