More important than your 1/16th Native American is what is the other 15/16ths? If you have more genetic make up from an ethic group with very different physical features that could answer your question.

Some genes are dominant and some recessive, so even with other family members being 1/16th they may have more dominant genes reflective of Native American features, while yours may be more recessive.

A good example the boys in my children's generation all ( 4 of them) have fire engine red hair where NONE of the girls do, they are a mix of blonde and light brown, same genetic history but the red hair is dominant in males.

I hope that example helps.

The magic number of 1/16 is not one of genetic makeup as it for dilution of the blood line, generally speaking 1/8 or at the lowest 1/16 is required to maintain tribal affiliation, what you look like doesn't matter.

Since 15/16th's of your biological makeup is associated with the Caucasian race, i assume, it would be far more likely that you would share the traits of those family members, rather than your single Native American ancestor. In actuality though, it would not even be necessary for you to have these traits even if you were 100 percent Native American. Though you most likely would have some dominant traits of the tribes you were associated with, there are no definites amongst any cultures. Some people with extremely dark skin are born with blond hair. Some Caucasians have very broad noses and full lips. Your physical features are really just a mixture of genealogy and chance combinations of your DNA sequence.

The real question is, why would you have those traits? That 1/16 is hardly enough to dominate the traits of the other 15 "parts" of you.

Hi. Not happy with that? You don't say what the other 15/16ths is. But I'll bet you are like me and everyone else on this planet. 100% human.

Because you are only 1/16th! Join the club. lol

I'm not good in math, but from what I can figure...that's like saying you are 6.25% Indian and 93.75% whatever else, so guess which genes come out more.

I'am about 1/4 native and my white side shows more. I guess I have a darker skin color though... except my feet. I never expose them to the light and they are dead pale sometimes... kinda freaky. lol

if you are 1/16th you do have traits. look at your stature. look at you awareness of natue and your love of animals.Look at your enjoyment of the outdoors and how it bothers you to see damage to the earth.look at your skills. Are you surefooted? Are you of steady hand. Are you decorative in your home or in your clothing? Are you a proud person? Are you sensitive to the wind?
